"The ultimate hematology treasure chest! 💎 Finding this many different types of immune cells in a single field of view is incredibly rare—a true microscope lucky charm! 🔬✨ Test your skills and try to identify them all: •Countless Red Blood Cells (RBCs) •The tiny purple dots (Platelets) •The 'blackberry-like' Basophil (upper right) •The fiery orange-granule Eosinophil (center) •The multi-lobed soldiers (Neutrophils, segmented and band) •The folded-nucleus giant (Monocyte) •The round commanders (Lymphocytes) •The ultimate rare find: The large, intense, deeply purple-stained reactive lymphocyte/plasma cell (center bottom)! How many did you find? 🔬Blood🩸is composed of: ➜Cellular substances- 45% i.e RBC, WBC & PLATELETS ➜Plasma-55%( contains serum + clotting factors) 🔬Differential blood count involves identifying and quantifying the different types of white blood cells (neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils) present in a blood smear slide under a microscope. It's a valuable diagnostic tool in assessing various medical conditions. 🔬The stain commonly used for blood smear slides in hematology labs is the Wright's stain, which is a Romanowsky-type stain. This stain is a mixture of eosin (pink/red stain) and methylene blue (blue/purple stain) components. It helps differentiate different blood cell types based on their staining properties, allowing for the visualization and identification of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets under a microscope. 🔬The general shapes and morphologies of different white blood cells (WBCs) when observed under a microscope, along with the names of commonly used stains: ➜Neutrophils: Neutrophils are the most common type of WBCs. They have multilobed nuclei connected by thin strands. The cytoplasm is pale and contains granules. Stain: Wright's stain. ➜Lymphocytes: Lymphocytes have a large, round nucleus that occupies most of the cell's volume. The cytoplasm is thin and forms a rim around the nucleus. Stain: Wright's stain. ➜Monocytes: Monocytes have a kidney-shaped nucleus and abundant cytoplasm that can appear foamy. The nucleus may be indented or folded. Stain: Wright's stain. ➜Eosinophils: Eosinophils have bilobed nuclei and large, uniform granules that stain bright pink to orange-red with eosin dye. Stain: Eosin stain. ➜Basophils: Basophils have a multilobed nucleus, similar to neutrophils, but their cytoplasm is filled with large, dark-staining granules that often obscure the nucleus. Stain: Wright's stain. #microbiologydiary #pathology #histopathology #haematology #laboratorio_microscopico #medicalmicrobiology💗🔬 #clinicalmicrobiologylaboratory #cells #blood #biochemistry 👩‍🔬🧬🦠🧫🐭🧿🔬🌈

A procedure in which a sample of blood is viewed under a microscope to count different circulating blood cells (red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, etc.) and see whether the cells look normal. It evaluates the white blood cells (WBCs, leukocytes), red blood cells (RBCs, erythrocytes) and platelets (thrombocytes). Blood smear is examined to investigate hematological problems (disorders of the blood) and, occasionally, to look for parasites within the blood such as malaria and filaria. @atlas_of_hematology #reelsinstagram #viralvideos #medicalstudent #hemetology #pathology #biochemistry

#hematologia #histologia #biologia #medicina #ciencia

What do you get when you mix yeast, green algae and blood? 🩸🫣 "To simulate an infection, I added yeasts and green algae to a drop of my blood 🦠🩸 Instantly, white blood cells (most probably macrophages and neutrophils) were attracted by the fake pathogens I introduced them! Like little amoebas, they crawled up to foreign organisms before eating and digesting them, a process called phagocytosis. This way, the danger is neutralized and won’t be able to hurt you! The role of your immune system is to protect you against a wide array of pathogens like viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites like worms or protozoa. It seems pretty straightforward like this but it’s a bit more complicated than this! There are two different types of immune responses against invading microbes: the innate response and the adaptative response. They both work together to eliminate a threat but are very different responses. In this video, you can observe the innate response, also called natural response, in action! This response is the body’s first line of defense against pathogen and is rapid and non-specific. This means it can recognize a wide range of pathogens that share common features and uses phagocytic cells like neutrophils and macrophages to destroy them. If you get bitten by an insect, macrophages and neutrophils will run at the crime scene and neutralize toxins or pathogens, if some got in. If there’s an infection and pathogens couldn’t be destroyed by macrophages and neutrophils, lymphocytes come along to the party!" 📸: @tardibabe 🔬: Olympus BX53 . . . #EvidentLifeScience #Evident #Olympus #Microscopy #Microscope #Micro #Microscopic #Microscopicworld #LifeScience #Biology #Microscopes #Nature #Science #Scientists #MicroscopeImages #Research #Optics #Imaging #Objective #Sciart #Microworld

Clickety clackety, today I learned how to do a Reticulocyte (retic) count! You count all the stained red blood cells - you count to 1000 - YES - ONE THOUSAND! You count the reticulocytes which are the immature red blood cells, you do this to count to evaluate how well the bone marrow is producing red blood cells 🩸 🔬 #reticulocyte #medicallaboratory #mltstudent #microscope #medicallab

Leukemia means BLOOD CANCER, and this right here is most likely Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) under the microscope. 🧬🩸 My co-worker saved a slide of a patient with a white blood cell count of 240k. Which is ASTRONOMICAL Normal range? 3.6k – 10.6k. When you see a slide like this, it’s incredibly colorful, packed with every stage of granulocyte development: myelocytes, metamyelocytes, promyelocytes, even blasts. It’s like a whole bone marrow party that spilled out into the peripheral blood… and that should not be happening. 👀 These immature cells don’t belong in the bloodstream…they’re supposed to stay in the bone marrow, which is where all blood cells are born. So when we see this mess in the veins? It’s a huge red flag. Bone marrow = blood factory Leukemia = bone marrow going cray cray This is CML, and this is what a blood cancer actually looks like under the scope. Pretty for us, but bad for the patient. 📱Comment the word “PASS” on Instagram to pass your ASCP Exam 🧪🥼
