🔬Blood🩸is composed of: ➜Cellular substances- 45% i.e RBC, WBC & PLATELETS ➜Plasma-55%( contains serum + clotting factors) 🔬Differential blood count involves identifying and quantifying the different types of white blood cells (neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils) present in a blood smear slide under a microscope. It's a valuable diagnostic tool in assessing various medical conditions. 🔬The stain commonly used for blood smear slides in hematology labs is the Wright's stain, which is a Romanowsky-type stain. This stain is a mixture of eosin (pink/red stain) and methylene blue (blue/purple stain) components. It helps differentiate different blood cell types based on their staining properties, allowing for the visualization and identification of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets under a microscope. 🔬The general shapes and morphologies of different white blood cells (WBCs) when observed under a microscope, along with the names of commonly used stains: ➜Neutrophils: Neutrophils are the most common type of WBCs. They have multilobed nuclei connected by thin strands. The cytoplasm is pale and contains granules. Stain: Wright's stain. ➜Lymphocytes: Lymphocytes have a large, round nucleus that occupies most of the cell's volume. The cytoplasm is thin and forms a rim around the nucleus. Stain: Wright's stain. ➜Monocytes: Monocytes have a kidney-shaped nucleus and abundant cytoplasm that can appear foamy. The nucleus may be indented or folded. Stain: Wright's stain. ➜Eosinophils: Eosinophils have bilobed nuclei and large, uniform granules that stain bright pink to orange-red with eosin dye. Stain: Eosin stain. ➜Basophils: Basophils have a multilobed nucleus, similar to neutrophils, but their cytoplasm is filled with large, dark-staining granules that often obscure the nucleus. Stain: Wright's stain. #microbiologydiary #pathology #histopathology #haematology #laboratorio_microscopico #medicalmicrobiology💗🔬 #clinicalmicrobiologylaboratory #cells #blood #biochemistry 👩‍🔬🧬🦠🧫🐭🧿🔬🌈

Could our blood help us find cancer earlier? 🩸 Platelets are tiny blood cells that help close up wounds. But that's not all they can do. Some of our researchers recently discovered that platelets can also 'hoover up' bits of DNA floating in the blood — even DNA from cancer cells. This microscopic discovery has huge potential, as it could help us make blood tests better at spotting cancer earlier. Our team even found platelets containing signs of pre-cancer. That means they could one day help us stop cancer before it even starts growing. It’s a small change in how we use blood samples, but it could make a huge difference. #ScientificDiscovery #CancerResearch

#hematologia #histologia #biologia #medicina #ciencia

We’re just bunch of cells talking to other cells 🤗 Did you know the average adult (human) has more than 5 liters of blood in their body? This makes up 6% to 7% of the body weight! Blood delivers nutrients and oxygen to every organs, every tissues, every cells of the living human body. Blood is composed of around 60% plasma, a fluid that mainly contains water, proteins, sugars, and fat. Red and white blood cells and platelets compose the 40% left. The most common cells in the bloodstream are red blood cells, also called erythrocytes. The role of red blood cells is to transport oxygen from the lungs to the tissues with the help of a special protein called hemoglobin. Since red blood cells lack a nucleus, they have kind of a donut shape!! This enables them to carry more hemoglobin and thus, more oxygen! Every second, around 2-4 million red blood cells are produced by the bone marrow and released into the circulatory system and there are around 4 to 6 million of these cells for each cubic millimeter of blood. The white blood cells also have critical roles; they protect us from pathogens by engaging a immune response. The white blood cells from the video are most likely macrophages, they crawl like amoebae and eat harmful pathogen and damaged or old cells. Platelets, also called thrombocytes, are way smaller than red and white blood cells and have a different function; they play a role in blood coagulation and wound healing. When you get an injury or when a blood vessel ruptures, platelets combine with fibrin to form a clot. You can see pretty well all the fibrin filaments and small round platelets in today’s video!
