A Common scenario: a pole dancer finally gets help for an injury & is doing all their exercises but is frustrated they still have symptoms. Here are some reasons why that happens: ➡️ Your training load hasn’t changed.�You can keep pole dancing with an injury, but your training has to be modified so tissues can actually heal. ➡️ Your timeline expectations are unrealistic.�With peace & love — an injury you ignored for months/years isn’t going to disappear after a couple weeks of exercises. Healing takes time. ➡️ You keep testing if you’ll be in pain.�Constantly checking if a trick hurts yet can prolong recovery if your tissues haven’t rebuilt the capacity for it. ➡️ Your rehab doesn’t match the demands of pole.�General rehab might feel fine for daily life or low-level pole, but symptoms return once intensity, frequency, or duration increase. ➡️ You’re ignoring the basics.�Your body isn’t compartmentalized. Recovery also requires sleep, enough food, hydration, and managing stress. Rehab exercises are just one piece of recovering from an injury. ✨ I currently have space for injury rehab clients. I’m noticing more pole dancers experiencing REDS than ever — and it’s not about “not trying hard enough.” It’s often a response to the intense physical demands of the sport combined with everyday pressures. 🤕 Your body gives you signals when it’s running low on energy. Some of the signs you might notice include: ❗ Feeling constantly fatigued during training ❗ Strength that fluctuates or feels harder than usual ❗ Bruising or slower healing than normal ❗ Mood changes, irritability, or feeling emotionally “off” ❗ Irregular or missing periods ❗ Reduced appetite These signs are your body telling you it needs more fuel, recovery, and support — not that you’ve done anything wrong. With the right nutrition and training adjustments, REDS is reversible, and you can get back to feeling strong and confident on the pole. Rotator cuff tears are a lot more common than we realise, but the diagnose of a tear isn’t all doom and gloom! 💪 Did you know approximately 50% of women with a full thickness tear are pain free (as shown by Hinsley et al., 2023). And the same study showed tears <2.5cm in length were less likely to be painful or affect shoulder function. So what does this mean for pole dancers? Well our rotator cuff is fabulous at compensating for structural injury, with the other muscles of the cuff often taking up the slack for the injured muscle. And it is possible for our muscles to adapt to the presence of a tear, even in a challenging activity such as pole dancing 💃 So if you’re wanting to ensure longevity or your shoulders, then touch base with our online team for rehab or pre-habilitative services.
