Honey bees live in large, well-structured colonies called hives. Each hive has three types of members:

They collect nectar from flowers and convert it into honey through a natural process involving enzymes and evaporation. This honey serves as their food, especially during times when flowers are scarce.
Honey bees communicate using a unique behavior called the “waggle dance,” which tells other bees the direction and distance of food sources. Their teamwork and coordination are remarkable, making them one of the best examples of social insects.
Most importantly, honey bees are essential for pollination. As they move from flower to flower collecting nectar, they transfer pollen, helping plants reproduce. This process supports the growth of fruits, vegetables, and many crops that humans depend on.
Despite their importance, honey bee populations are declining due to factors like pesticide use, habitat loss, and climate change. Protecting them is crucial for maintaining food supply and environmental balance.
