There are certain performance benefits to what you eat before and after workouts but in the grand scheme of things it’s what you ended up eating at the end of day, your workouts and your sleep that will be help you reach your goals! . Carbs give us energy and if eating means you’re having a better workout it can be argued that eating is indeed beneficial. If you perform just fine fasted - don’t fix what’s not broken! These are my personal preferences to allow my body enough time to digest so I’m not feeling lethargic during workouts. . During your workouts you breakdown muscle, use energy and lose vitamins and minerals through sweat so you want to take advantage of quicker recovery by putting those things into your system as quickly as possible! Wash your phone case, use Clorox wipes or rubbing alcohol, and clean your phone after every workout. We throw our phones everywhere, and our dirty hands touch them too often at the gym. ◉Exfoliate 2-3 times a week (maybe even every day, gently, if your skin allows it). We touch and sit on other people’s sweat and bodily fluids daily at the gym. My daily workout split (aka how I stay sane, strong, and happy): I always start with steps. Breakfast is my biggest meal of the day, and a slow easy walk helps my digestion, wakes up my body, and lets me ease into movement with a calm nervous system. Lately I’ve been adding a 30-minute incline walk toward the end of my steps. It’s my favorite low-impact way to work my legs and glutes a little extra. Just a reminder that “toned” legs come from a combo of muscle + overall fat loss, not one magic exercise. Cardio is a non-negotiable for me. I recently started a new run plan with the @runna app, which means I’m “training” for an imaginary half-marathon over the next four months. Real goal? Better endurance, more speed, and feeling strong doing it. Following a plan keeps me consistent and excited!! And of course, strength time. This is usually my back-focused day where I lift heavy, but my back muscles are very eager overachievers. So I’ve been pulling back on heavy loads and leaning into high-rep, low-weight, Pilates-style strength for my upper body. It gives me the look I like, feels amazing, and honestly… there’s something empowering about absolutely crushing a workout with 5lb dumbbells. Little disclaimer: building a strong, muscular back is an amazing goal and I love that for anyone who wants it 🤍 This approach just works best for me and how my body responds.
