Chronic psychological stress produces measurable structural changes in the prefrontal cortex — the brain region governing executive function, impulse regulation, and goal-directed behavior. Neurobiological research confirms that sustained cortisol elevation degrades synaptic density within prefrontal networks, progressively impairing the brain's capacity for planning, emotional regulation, and cognitive control. The neurological consequence is compounding — increased stress reduces the brain's ability to manage stress. This is not a character deficit. It is a measurable biological process documented in stress neuroscience literature. Light enters the eye and strikes the retina, where rods and cones convert it into electrical impulses. These signals pass through bipolar cells to retinal ganglion cells. The axons of the ganglion cells converge at the optic disc, an area without photoreceptors, creating the physiological blind spot. From here, the axons leave the eye as the optic nerve (cranial nerve II) and pass through the optic canal into the cranial cavity. The two optic nerves meet at the optic chiasm above the pituitary gland. Here, fibers from the nasal retina cross to the opposite side, while temporal retinal fibers remain uncrossed. This partial decussation allows each cerebral hemisphere to receive information from the opposite visual field and explains defects such as bitemporal hemianopia in chiasmal lesions. Beyond the chiasm, fibers continue as optic tracts, each carrying information from the contralateral visual field of both eyes. Most fibers synapse in the lateral geniculate nucleus of the thalamus. From there, optic radiations project to the primary visual cortex (Brodmann area 17) along the calcarine sulcus of the occipital lobe, where vision is consciously perceived. A small number of fibers bypass the lateral geniculate nucleus to reach the superior colliculus and pretectal nucleus, mediating visual reflexes and the pupillary light reflex, which is clinically important in assessing the afferent visual pathway. . . . . . . . . . #VisualPathway #OpticNerve #OpticChiasm #OpticTract #LateralGeniculateNucleus

The Network That Sees and Thinks 🧠👁️ Your eyes don’t actually see — your brain does. The light that enters your eyes turns into electrical signals traveling through the optic nerves into the visual cortex, where reality is constructed inside your mind. This 3D visualization shows the neural network that connects your eyes, brain, and body — the system that lets you experience everything around you. #SmartDoctor #Brain #Eyes #Neuroscience #Anatomy #3DAnimation #MedicalEducation #Science #pulmonaryhypertension #heartanatomy #3danimation #cardiology #fblifestyle #anatomy #heart #meded #education #smartdoctor1 #medicina #pregnant #brainanatomy #brain #maleanatomy #reproductivesystem #anatomía #解剖学 #해부 #anatomia #anatomie #دماغ

Visual Field Deficits Explained in 90 Seconds 👁️🧠 Understanding visual field cuts becomes way easier when you know the pathway. In this video I break down the visual field pathway step-by-step so you can quickly understand why different lesions create different deficits. We cover: • Retina → Optic nerve • The crossing at the optic chiasm • Optic tract → Lateral geniculate nucleus • Optic radiations → Visual cortex Once you understand the anatomy, patterns like bitemporal hemianopia, homonymous hemianopia, and quadrantanopia suddenly make sense instead of feeling like random memorization. Think: location of the lesion = pattern of vision loss. Perfect for: • PT, OT, and medical students • Neuro nerds • Anyone studying for neuro exams or boards Save this for when visual pathways show up on your next exam. #brainanatomy #neuroanatomy #visionloss #neurology #healthcareeducation

The anterior midcingulate cortex (aMCC) is a brain region associated with willpower, tenacity, and the capacity to overcome challenges. Research indicates that engaging in tasks perceived as difficult or undesirable can lead to the growth of the aMCC, thereby enhancing an individual’s resilience and determination. 🧠 💪 Via @hubermanlab

How does nerve signal transmission work? 🧠 Electrical impulses travel along neurons to carry information quickly. At synapses, chemical messengers pass the signal to the next cell. This system controls movement, thoughts, reflexes, and body functions. #NerveSignal #Neuroscience #NervousSystem #Biology #STEM

The video captures a fundamental biological process called synaptogenesis. This is the formation of new connections, known as synapses, between neurons in the brain. Whenever we learn a new skill, memorize a fact, or form a new memory, our brain physically rewires itself. It is not just a digital storage of data; it is a structural transformation. These growing fibers reach out to establish communication pathways, allowing electrical and chemical signals to travel faster and more efficiently. This remarkable ability of the brain to change and adapt throughout our lives is called neuroplasticity. It proves that the brain is not a static organ but a dynamic, ever-evolving network that grows stronger with every new experience.
