ProTaper Universal
Recommended speed: 250โ350 rpm (commonly used around 250โ300 rpm in practice)
Used in continuous rotation with torque-controlled motor.
The manufacturer does not specify fixed torque values per individual file in the standard DFU.
On an average we take Torque- 2.5-3 Ncm.
ProTaper Gold
Recommended speed: 300 rpm (range 250โ350 rpm)
Manufacturer-recommended torque values:
โข S1 & SX: 5.1 Ncm
โข S2 & F1: 1.5 Ncm
โข F2, F3, F4, F5: 3.1 Ncm
Both ProTaper Universal and ProTaper Gold feature a progressive and regressive variable taper design. The shaping files have increasing taper coronally to enhance straight-line access and coronal enlargement, while the finishing files have decreasing taper toward the shank. This design reduces taper lock, minimizes torsional stress as the file advances apically, and improves flexibility in the apical third.
