Some opinionated truth bombs. Strap in. Unsanded wood looks halfassed. It could be drift wood, firewood, wood from the dumpster- I donโ€™t care so much about the kind of wood as I do about the SANDEDNESS of the wood. The *presentation* of the wood itself. Itโ€™s kinda lazy to not sand your wood and I think it looks halfassed. Learn to sand the wood. Watch a YouTube video. Spend the money on basic equipment and do it yourself. Or get someone else to do it for you if you canโ€™t do it yourself- pay your nephew, ask your sister, ask your uncle, pay the neighborโ€™s kid to do it. Find a way to get the wood sanded. OR support a business like ours and buy pre-sanded wood. Invest in your canvases. Invest in yourself. Up your game. Unsanded wood doesnโ€™t look NEARLY as nice as sanded wood. Hereโ€™s a pro tip for wood burning โฌ‡๏ธ Even if an area of your piece is in complete shadow, adding texture in your burn will really add dimension and life to the art! Here, in my reference photo, this side of the dogโ€™s face was in complete black shadow. I could have gone in with my flat shader and burned the area black and smooth. But using my knowledge of fur direction, I was able to add in texture while burning dark. From a distance, it matches the reference photo, but when you are up close, the dimension of the dog comes to life and the shadows donโ€™t fall flat!
