𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 💊 My thyroid crashed this past November in a big way. It’s core symptoms were three panic attacks in a week, with one of them lasting multiple days as I could not get my heart to stop racing. My body was sending out adrenaline as an SOS to try to stimulate my thyroid. This was a major wake up call to me. I went to see my Functional Doctor who confirmed my Thyroid had crashed (I thought I was just having anxiety!) After this, I knew I had to make some changes, including how I handled stress and nourished my body. 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀: As a life long low carb eater, I didn’t realize that extreme low carb dieting, with the goal of putting your body into ketosis, relies on cortisol to force the function of gluconeogensis (converting fats to sugar your body can use). I also didn’t take into account that glucose is needed to convert T4 (thyroid storage hormone) to T3 (active thyroid your body can use). If you’re eating low carb, this is not a knock on you. Everyone should do what makes them feel best- if you feel great then keep it up! But, as someone who has been battling adrenal fatigue for a long time, I finally learned (the hard way, with my thyroid crashing) that I need carbs to help calm down the stress hormones I have been living on for years. My work in progress Animal Based cookbook will have a lot of tips, tricks and recipes to help others who want to boost their metabolism with food. I’m glad I could be the guinea pig so the lessons I’m learning might benefit others. I think we can all agree that an improved metabolism would greatly improve everyone’s quality of life. And for this reason I am sharing, definitively, that I no longer think carbs are the devil. In fact, they (the right ones) can be healing! Aajonus Vonderplanitz didn’t start as a “raw nutrition” pioneer. He started as a patient who was supposed to die. In his early twenties he was diagnosed with cancer and multiple chronic illnesses. Doctors gave him months. Chemo, radiation, pharmaceuticals nothing worked. His body was collapsing. So he did what most would never do: he left the medical system and turned to raw animal foods. Raw milk,meat, eggs, butter, unheated honey. The exact foods modern society fears. Slowly he recovered. His energy, nervous system, immune function, digestion, and clarity came back.
