Save this hands-on word play activity to help kids practice short vowels and CVC words in a fun, low-prep way ✨ Here’s how it works: Draw five envelopes and label them with the vowels a, e, i, o, u—give each vowel its own color code. Write simple CVC words on small cards and spread them out. Your child reads each word and sorts it into the correct colored envelope based on the vowel sound. This phonics activity builds early reading skills, strengthens vowel recognition, and supports reading readiness—perfect for preschool, kindergarten, and homeschool learning. 🫧✨ DIY Bubble Wand Activity for Kids (Ages 5–8) This one’s a show-stopper! Bonus? It builds fine motor skills, patience, and focus, while keeping kids completely entertained. 🧪 The Science: Blowing bubbles requires controlled breath and coordination. It helps develop oral motor strength, concentration, and visual tracking, skills essential for reading readiness and calming strategies! 🧼 How to Make the Wand: 1. Cut colorful plastic straws into short pieces. 2. Fill a small plastic cup lid or circle with the cut straws. 3. Use hot glue to hold the straws in place (adults only!). 4. Attach a craft stick or skewer as a handle. 5. Dip the straw end into a bubble mixture and blow through it! 🧴 Bubble Mixture Recipe: • ½ cup water • 2 tablespoons dish soap • 1 tablespoon glycerin or corn syrup (for longer-lasting bubbles!) 🎯 Let your child experiment with blowing gently vs. forcefully. It’s an amazing self-regulation tool for kids learning to calm their body and breath. — Want more quick activities that build confidence and brain power? Learning to read is so much fun! Not every child is ready to read at the same time! Each child is different and should not be pushed to read until ready or it can become frustrating to both the child and the parent. All of my own children learned to ready at different ages. One of my middle children started reading at 3, but my youngest was not ready to begin formal reading until age 6/7 and that’s okay! Watch your child for signs of reading readiness. * interested in books * wants to learn to read * ability to listen and understand a short story * basic knowledge of letters/sounds * basic rhyming * basic knowledge of syllables These are just a few signs. The most important in my personal opinion is showing interest and wanting to learn to read ❤️ This is just one way that I begin teaching reading. I hope you and your child find this video useful and fun! #preschool #preschoolteacher #kindergartenteacher #learntoread #earlychildhoodeducation #readingforkids

Movement integrates and balances the brain. When we activate both brain hemispheres through cross-lateral patterns, we create the neural pathways necessary for learning, communication, and emotional regulation. Movement #1: Cross Crawls Stand up, lift your right knee and touch it with your left hand. Switch sides. Do this for 2 minutes while your child mirrors you. You’re literally building the corpus callosum—the bridge between brain hemispheres. Movement #2: Lazy 8s Draw a sideways figure 8 in the air with your finger, following it with your eyes. Have your child trace it too. This activates visual tracking, reading readiness, and bilateral integration simultaneously. Movement #3: Brain Buttons Place one hand on your navel, use the other to massage the soft spots just below your collarbone. You’re stimulating blood flow to the brain and activating the vestibular system. Here’s what happens neurologically: These movements activate the reticular activating system, increase cerebral blood flow, and integrate primitive reflexes that may be blocking your child’s development. The families seeing breakthrough results in weeks, not years? They’re not waiting for appointments. They’re activating their child’s brain daily with intentional movement at home. But here’s what most parents don’t realize: These movements work exponentially better when integrated into a complete learning environment that honors how your child’s brain actually develops. That’s why homeschool roadmap is not about homeschool but about being able to create the support both you and your child need. Follow @learnwithcharz we are working on reading series in the upcoming videos Here are some signs of reading readiness 1) recognizes some letters and letter sounds 2) shows an interest in reading (pretends to read) 3) print awareness - when you read to your child, have THEM point to each word while YOU read it Here are some tips for formal lessons ⭐️This is part 2 so be sure to go over the phonics song I mentioned in part 1 ⭐️Attention and focus are very important. I would work on this first before having a formal lesson. ⭐️Break up the lesson into 2 parts if your child cannot sit through a whole lesson ⭐️ We tried to work on 3-4 letters a week ⭐️Observe your child and follow your child’s lead. If they already know the letter sound of certain letters for example “m,” skip it, and move onto the next letter sound ⭐️If they just need reinforcement, then pick and choose what exercise you and your child like and work on that instead of going through each step of the whole lesson ⭐️Some days we just reinforced by reviewing letters and skipped lessons all together if she wasn’t in the mood. There are other ways we can reinforce let sounds without having formal lessons; through play and organically weaving it into daily conversations ⭐️After your child successfully learns a letter sound you can put it on the wall to help with recall #prek #kindergarten #threeyearsold #earlyreaders #learntoread #firstgrade #secondgrade #homeschool #homeschoolmom #homeschooling #homeschoollife #phonics #literacy #howtoteachkids #howtoread #scienceofreading #fluency #parenting #parentingtips #montessori #montessoritoddler #montessorimom
