The truth is, I used to be my own worst enemy. I spent years in a high-stress loop, ignoring the “alarm bells” my body was sending. I thought I just had a “weak stomach,” but what I actually had was a nervous system that was stuck in overdrive. When you’re constantly in “fight or flight,” your body de-prioritizes digestion. Your gastric emptying slows down, your diaphragm tenses up, and that internal pressure pushes acid exactly where it shouldn’t be. I wasn’t just dealing with “stomach acid”—I was dealing with a total barrier failure. But here is the shift: healing didn’t come from a more restrictive diet or more “don’t eat” lists. It came from Barrier Optimization. I stopped fighting my body and started supporting the mechanics of my LES (lower esophageal sphincter). Here is exactly how I shifted from erosion to remission: 1️⃣ The “LES Lock”: I started practicing diaphragmatic breathing for 5-10 minutes, especially an hour after meals. This strengthens the crural diaphragm—your “extrinsic sphincter”—to physically prevent backflow. 2️⃣ Nervous System Snacks: I stopped scrolling while eating and started taking 1-5 minute “regulation breaks” throughout the day. Stress impacts your digestive juice production; chewing until your food is “applesauce consistency” reduces the mechanical load on your stomach. 3️⃣ The 4-Hour Buffer: I made it a non-negotiable to stop eating 3 hours before lying down. This ensures gastric emptying is complete, so there’s no pressure forcing that valve open while I sleep. 4️⃣ Left-Side Gravity: I started sleeping on my left side with a slight elevation. This keeps the LES in an “air pocket” above your stomach contents—using physics to keep the acid down. If you’ve been told your “normal” tests mean nothing is wrong, but you’re still hurting, I see you. You aren’t “broken,” your barrier just needs better support. I built the FLORA app to be the bridge between the clinical research and your kitchen, so you don’t have to guess anymore. ❓ Was sind eure Tipps gegen Sodbrennen? #ernährungsdocs #goldeneleinsamen #leinsamensud #leinsamen #TippsGegenSodbrennen #Sodbrennen #Reflux

Just because it’s common... Doesn’t mean you should have to put up with acid reflux. Here’s why it might be happening and what you can do about it 👆 OC: mmmarie317 on TT P.S if you’re experiencing heartburn or reflux regularly (at least twice a week) and it’s not related to lifestyle factors, you may have what is called gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD). GORD is a common condition, affecting as many as 10 per cent of adults and it’s worth speaking to your GP about this. #reflux #gutissues #guthealthtips #ScienceBacked #Nutritiontips

Did you guess correctly? 👇🏻 It was…Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Disease (LPRD) This isn’t your typical heartburn ❤️‍🔥 LPR happens when stomach contents travel up the esophagus and reach the throat and voice box — sometimes without any burning sensation at all. 🔎 Common symptoms: • Throat clearing • Postnasal drip sensation • Lump in the throat (globus) • Hoarseness • Chronic cough • Excess throat mucus 👉 Many patients say: “It feels like there is extra mucus in my throat.” Here’s what most people don’t realize 👇🏻 Reflux doesn’t always come up as liquid. Acid and enzymes like pepsin can travel on gas bubbles. ⚠️ And it’s not always just “too much acid.” This is a mechanical problem - dysmotility impacts the upper GI tract too Triggers can include: • Large meals • Eating too quickly • Lying down too soon after eating • Tight clothing around the abdomen • Poor diaphragm function • Slow gut motility (including GLP1 type meds) 💊 Treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all: • Acid reduction can help some people (~30%) • Alginates create a barrier to block upward movement of stomach contents • Chewing gum can increase saliva and improve gut motility • Lifestyle changes are often the biggest driver of improvement 🚶‍♂️ Simple habits that help: • Eat smaller meals and slow down • Don’t lie down within 2–3 hours after eating • Go for a short walk after meals • Avoid tight belts or waistbands • Train your diaphragm with breathwork In some cases, a full upper endoscopy with GI can be helpful to rule out mucosal damage from acid exposure but also things like stricture, masses or eosinophilic esophagitis. The goal of treatment isn’t just to “block acid.” It’s to improve how your body handles digestion. 👉 Follow along for more “you’ll never guess the diagnosis” ENT cases. Now I’m curious: Before reading this, would you have guessed reflux - even without heartburn? 👇 #lpr #laryngopharyngealreflux #reflux #gerd #medicalmystery

🔥Acid-Reflux isn’t usually just a stomach acid problem ➡️Unless it’s being caused by H.Pylori 🤔So what can it be? One of the top reasons for chronic acid reflux in our practice is gut microbiome imbalances ☝🏻Our digestive tract is all connected so if one piece of it is off then it can affect any other part 💩Gut microbiome imbalances can affect how we digest food, resulting in things like chronic bloating and constipation which can make reflux worse. 👉🏻So if these things aren’t addressed, while on that PPI (that is likely just covering up your symptoms), then when you get off it, your symptoms are likely going to come back 🤔Want to know what the other common causes of acid-reflux we see are? ⌨️Comment “Acid Reflux” to get our free guide on this! #gut #guthealth #healthygut #hormone #hormones #hormonehealth #hormonalbalance #histamine #allergy #bloating #bloated #mold #diarrhea #constipation #inflammation #candida #acidreflux #reflux #gerd #heartburn

Most people think reflux = heartburn. But LPR (aka “silent reflux”) doesn’t always burn… it shows up in ways most people and honestly, most providers miss. For me (and so many of my clients), it looked like: • Constant throat clearing • Feeling like something was stuck in my throat • Hoarseness or voice fatigue • A dry cough that wouldn’t go away • “Post-nasal drip” that never improved No burning. No obvious reflux. So it got brushed off… while the root issue kept getting worse. Here’s the truth: LPR is still reflux, it’s just reaching higher into the throat and airways. And popping antacids or PPIs doesn’t address why it’s happening in the first place. In my practice, we look at: • Stomach acid levels (not just “too much” 👀) • Digestive function + motility • Gut imbalances contributing to pressure + reflux • Nervous system regulation (yes, this matters more than you think) •Histamine Because when you actually address the root cause… those “random” symptoms finally start to make sense and improve. If you’ve been dealing with these and not getting answers, you’re not crazy you’re just missing the full picture. Comment “group” and I’ll send you the link to apply for my gut healing program to work 1:1 with me. Erin Kenney, MS, RD, LDN, HCP 💫 #lpr #gerd #reflux #dietitian #guthealth

📣spit up is NOT the only sign of GERD.📣 And while spitting up is a common symptom of GERD, it’s not always the main symptom, and sometimes it’s not a symptom at all—ever heard of “silent reflux?” Reflux is common in infants—their digestive system is immature and their lower esophageal sphincter is weak, allowing milk to regurgitate. While it is common, it can certainly cause feeding issues, sleep issues, and overall discomfort and fussiness. Unfortunately, the support provided to parents in addressing reflux is lacking. It’s mostly reflux precautions and sometimes medication. ⭐️Truth is, there’s actually SO much more we can do to address and reduce reflux and reflux symptoms ⭐️ As a feeding therapist and lactation counselor, here’s what I wish more people knew about reflux: ▫️a feeding assessment by a feeding professional (OT/SLP/IBCLC) can make a big difference because… ▫️simple changes in feeding can make a BIG impact. Things like: -slowing the flow -positioning baby in a more upright position OR one that allows for better alignment or support -switching to smaller, more frequent feedings -improving baby’s latch on the breast or bottle -improving baby’s sucking skills/addressing an oral motor issues -ruling out other issues/potential causes ▫️Silent Reflux is certainly a thing. This is where reflux is still happening, but baby is not actually spitting up. So if your baby has a lot of the signs above, but no spit up, reflux could still be at play! ▫️reflux can often peak around 3ish months of age, but we often see overall improvement around 6 months of age and beyond. Now, it’s important to note these signs could indicate other feeding issues! So, if you’re noticing these in your baby, the best thing you can do is set up an assessment with an infant feeding therapist or professional to determine what is causing these issues! ⭐️follow @thefeedingcompany for daily infant feeding and development support and tips from a baby feeding and play expert and mom! #newmom #reflux reflux #newmom #infantfeeding
