I started jumping rope after I heard a story from my dad. He told me he would jump rope on his lunch break. And I thought that was good work ethic. Considering I was 16 and had tons of time I just stole his jump rope and would spend 20mins jumping rope for fun. It ended up becoming a habit and a great way to spend some time or warm up before a workout.

SIZE MATTERS! But not the way you think. Most people err on the side of choosing a rope that’s too long for fear of choosing a rope that’s too short and constantly tripping. The problem is people adapt their form and technique to the long rope and develop poor technique and a slew of bad habits. However, adapting to shorter ropes will actually develop better technique, greater efficiency and enhanced performance. Sizing your jump rope is very nuanced and different for each individual. Below is a general framework to aspire to. Beginners - Height plus 3 feet maximum. Shorter is preferred. Intermediate/Advanced - Height plus 30 inches or shorter. Pro Level - Height plus 2 feet or shorter. Let’s get on that jump rope diet and see if you can shed some inches off your jump rope.
