🩷Do you know the difference? ✨𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 means being practical, wise, reasonable, showing good judgment. A 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 person thinks before making a decision. ✨𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 means being easily affected by things, (emotions or physical sensations). Your skin can be 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞. You can have 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 teeth. @explainingourpsychology
An HSP, or Highly Sensitive Person, refers to someone with a personality trait called sensory processing sensitivity. This means their nervous system tends to take in more information from their environment and process it more deeply than average. As a result, HSPs are often more affected by loud noises, strong emotions, bright lights, or tense social situations. It’s not a disorder, but a natural variation in how the brain filters and responds to stimulation. Psychologically, this deeper processing can make HSPs more observant, intuitive, and emotionally aware of subtle details that others might miss. At the same time, being highly sensitive can come with challenges. Because their system becomes easily overstimulated, HSPs may feel drained faster in busy or emotionally intense environments and need more time alone to recover. They also tend to feel emotions—both their own and others’—more strongly, which can make empathy a core strength but also lead to emotional overwhelm. In relationships and daily life, this sensitivity can be misinterpreted as overreaction, when in reality it’s just a more reactive nervous system. When understood properly, HSP traits can be a strength, especially in creativity, emotional intelligence, and deep thinking.

1. The No-Reaction Test (Emotional Control Check) Think of something that usually triggers you—anger, embarrassment, anything. Now sit still for 60 seconds with zero facial reaction. No expressions, no movement. • If your face or body reacts, you’re not in control—your emotions are. • Controlling reaction = controlling how others read you in real situations. 2. The Urge Control Test (Measures Discipline In Real Time) Keep your phone next to you with notifications on. For the next 2 minutes, don’t touch it—no matter what. Notice the urge building. • That urge = lack of control, not “habit.” • If you can resist it, you’re training real discipline. 3. The Eye Contact Test (Confidence & Control Check) Look into your own eyes in a mirror for 2 minutes straight. No breaking, no distractions. If you look away, laugh, or feel uncomfortable… • You’re not fully comfortable with your own presence. • Holding eye contact builds control, confidence, and composure under pressure. . . follow us now or regret later . . .#experiments #insecurity #faults

Quick one for you 👇 Sensibel looks exactly like "sensible" in English... but it doesn't mean the same thing at all. In German, sensibel means sensitive, not reasonable or practical. So if you tell a German speaker you're being "sensibel" about a decision, you're actually saying you're getting emotional about it 😅 The English "sensible" is closer to vernünftig. It's one of those sneaky false friends that can catch even confident learners out. Thomas breaks down 10 more like it in our latest Coffee Break German video, it's a proper quiz, so grab a coffee and play along. 🎥 Full video linked in our bio ☕🇩🇪 #CoffeeBreakGerman #LearnGerman #GermanVocabulary #FalseFriends #GermanLanguage

Highly Sensitive Person is a term introduced by Elaine Aron to describe a personality trait, not a diagnosis. About fifteen to twenty percent of people are thought to have it. It means your nervous system processes experiences more deeply. You notice subtleties others miss, reflect a lot before making decisions, and feel emotions intensely. Joy can feel expansive. Criticism can feel heavy. Loud or chaotic environments can be overwhelming, and you may need quiet time to reset. The core traits are often described as depth of processing, overstimulation, emotional intensity, and sensitivity to subtleties. Sensitivity is not weakness. In supportive environments it becomes empathy, creativity, and insight. In invalidating environments it can turn into shame. The work is not to become less sensitive, but to regulate and see your sensitivity as a strength. 💌Diana #mentalhealth #therapy #explorepage✨ #reels #traumahealing

she isn’t overreacting… her body is going back to places that never felt safe Absorbing everything. The teacher’s words. The laughter. The noise. And underneath all of that — every fight, every raised voice, every moment at home that felt like too much — flooding in all at once. HSPs don’t just feel their own emotions. They feel the room. They feel the people around them. They feel what’s been left unsaid. And in a world that wasn’t built for that kind of sensitivity — they spend most of their childhood being told the problem is them. It was never them. if you grew up being called too sensitive, too emotional, too much — and never understood why you felt things so differently from everyone around you — there’s a reason. and it deserves to be understood, not fixed. you can book a 1:1 session with me through the link in my bio, or DM me “sensitive” and we’ll figure it out together 🌿 (clip from Perfect Family — credit to the creators for showing this so honestly) . . Tactile sensitivity??? Clothing. Sheets. Hand holding. Massages. Even kissing. Allll a part of the tactile sensation. And how regulated you are for sure has a lot to do with touch and sensitivity. It’s all part of what makes up our sensory system. tactile hypersensitivity occurs because the brain pays too much attention to light touch and protective sensations from the skin. Instead of listening to the extra information available from the discriminative pathway, the brain keeps paying attention to the light touch and protective sensations. Curious. How many of you struggle with tactile sensitivity?!? Would love to know in the comments below. Thanks @realadamrose for the perfect example of tactile sensitivity!
