FRIncorrectly check the fit of your stone prior to soldering on your bezel, and you could end up ruining your entire piece.
A hard truth- I know.
Think about how you place your stone into the bezel when you’re setting it.
Do you insert it from the bottom or lower it in from the top?
If you don’t know the answer:
👉🏼It’s from the top.
You can’t insert it from the bottom because there’s a backplate in the way.
Why this matters👈🏼
It’s VERY easy to slide down or force the bezel to fit around the stone when you place it over the top. Meaning that your metal is tight, but it may not seem this way because “it fit”.
But when you insert your stone from the top, you’ll notice areas that might become problematic when it comes time to set the stone in the final piece.
Therefore: this is why this is the ONLY way to properly check the bezel fit.
From the top- every time (unless you have a crazy design that allows for a bottom up approach)

OPI was 17 when I started this business with my mom, no clue what I was doing, 0 direction, all I knew was that I wanted to be an full time artist one day and I would do whatever it took to get there. From going to college and working full time and doing craft shows on the weekends, to finishing my business and jewelry degrees, I finally got to a point where i’m now creating jewelry full time and refusing to work a 9-5 ever again. It took a lot of delusion and dedication to get here, but I wouldn’t trade this life for anything, not even a stable income or retirement benefits🥹😅
To all the artists and small business just getting started, this is your reminder to never give up on yourself and keep pushing till you reach your goals. I still have a real estate side hustle, and sometimes that’s just how it is, but to get to do what I love every day and have the flexibility that comes from self-employment will always be worth it.
