Studies show inefficient rowing/ski mechanics can waste up to 30–40% of your energy output. Imagine working that hard and losing almost half your effort. Here’s the fix: ❌ Long, slow strokes = wasted power at the bottom ✅ Explosive hinge + quick reset = more watts, faster splits, less effort The drive phase at the top of the stroke is where the real power comes from. Spending time at the bottom doesn’t give you much return — it just burns you out. Der Ski Erg. killt dich beim HYROX? So machst du das Pacing richtig Im ersten Schritt testest du deine 2000m Leistung am Ski Ergometer. Das machst du bitte nicht am Tag vorm Race, sondern einige Wochen davor. So kannst du auch deine Trainingszonen perfekt festlegen. Falls du den 2k Test noch nie gemacht hast: Viel Spaß dabei. Es ist eine Nahtoterfahrung. Mit dem 2k Test in der Tasche, kannst du dein Pacing für den HYROX perfekt berechnen. Wir gehen dabei immer von deiner pace/500m aus, weil dir das auch im HYROX Race auf dem Ergometer angezeigt wird. Hast du für deinen 2000m Test 8:00min gebraucht, bist du bei 2:00min pro 500m. Auf diesen Wert schlägst du 10 Sekunden drauf, um bei deiner HYROX Pace zu landen. Das bedeutet im Race arbeitest du mit 2:10min / 500m. Das klingt für dich vielleicht langsam, aber dein Ziel ist es auch nicht den Ski Erg. so schnell wie möglich zu beenden. Das Race hat gerade erst angefangen und es warten noch 7 weitere Kilometer und 7 weitere Stationen auf dich. Hyrox has given the ski erg a spotlight (which I love) but what a lot of folks don’t know is that this cool machine was originally intended for Nordic ski training: Skate Skiing and Classic Skiing, mimicking your poles pushing off the snow. So let’s break down a few things: ✅When skate skiing you have to push off one leg at a time so balance is crucial, any extraneous upper body movements will throw you off your glide. ✅This also means that your hips must lock out all the way as you push off one leg and transfer weight to the other. ❌Excessive forward bending will create more friction on your skis against the snow and stop the glide. You’ll also run into that snow ditch. ❌Emphasis on the bottom of the movement is a waste of energy since your poles have already done the work of pushing off. A sign you might be doing this is if you feel the majority of work is in your triceps and or biceps. If you get a chance I recommend trying out cross country skiing, it will give you a lot of insight on how to use this tool. ⛷️ #skierg #hyrox #hyroxtraining #skiergworkout

Respect the equipment so it can keep supporting your training. ✅ DO: • Pull the handles gently to begin — set the stroke before you add power • Create tension on the strings before driving down • Maintain tension on the strings whilst skiing — stay connected throughout • Control the handles in both directions, down and up • Place the handles back gently — don’t let them fly ❌ DON’T: • Pull too hard from the top • Let go at the bottom • Let the ropes go slack mid-pull 👉 These are the quickest ways to damage the cords and snap the machine.
