🔟 Things I Wish I Knew Before My First HYROX (So You Don’t Learn the Hard Way 👇) I’ve raced 20+ hybrid events… and made just about every mistake possible 😅 If I could go back to day one, here’s what I’d tell myself: 1️⃣ Burpee Broad Jumps Chest touches the floor. Every rep. Land with feet parallel. Small details = big penalties. 2️⃣ Burpee + Lunge Strategy No sprint → stop → gasp cycle. Find a rhythm you can actually run after. Consistency wins races. 3️⃣ Sled Push Stop before your legs explode. Once lactate spikes, you’re in survival mode. Break early. Stay smooth. 4️⃣ Farmer’s Carry Grip is the limiter. Use chalk. Dropping the weights costs more time than pacing them. 5️⃣ ROX Zone Efficiency Get in. Execute. Move. No standing around. You lose races in the margins. 6️⃣ Run Smart Use the runs to control heart rate. Don’t attack every loop. 7️⃣ Wall Balls Relax between reps. Drop your arms. Breathe. Rhythm > brute force. 8️⃣ Sled Pull Pull like a deadlift. Place the rope beside you with tension. No tangles = free speed. 9️⃣ SkiErg Damper Higher isn’t better. Which didn’t use to be the case (watch my previous reel for how that went 😣) I used to think that the step backs had more risk with the box penalties, rope management, and even possibly tripping on the rope I figured I would have better momentum doing hand over hand but we all know momentum really isn’t a thing with this turf 😆 The reality of the step backs is that you can utilize your body weight to get it moving and step it back vs over exerting yourself by forcing each pull - #hyroxphoenix #hybridathlete #hyrox #hyroxworld #hyroxsledpull

Here is the simplest cue that matters most at each station. 1. Ski Erg Do not pull the handles to the floor. Finish around the hips to keep rhythm and breathing controlled. 2. Sled Push Get your chest over the weights. A forward torso keeps force driving into the sled instead of up. 3. Sled Pull Use the entire box to walk back. Longer steps mean fewer pulls and better efficiency. 4. Burpees Do not stand all the way up. Extra vertical movement spikes heart rate for no reason. 5. Rower Good form beats high stroke rate.
