Endurance Ride (Zone 2) β€’ Duration: 60–90 mins β€’ Effort: Comfortable pace, able to talk in full sentences β€’ Goal: Build aerobic base, improve fat metabolism, and get used to longer time in the saddle. 2. Cadence Drill Ride β€’ Duration: 45–60 mins β€’ Structure: β€’ Warm-up 10 mins β€’ 5Γ—2 mins at 100–110 rpm, 3 mins easy spin between β€’ Cool down 10 mins β€’ Goal: Improve pedal efficiency and leg speed. 3. Short Hill Repeats β€’ Duration: 45–60 mins β€’ Structure: β€’ Find a moderate hill (2–4 mins climb) β€’ Ride up at a steady, challenging pace (not max) β€’ Spin back down easy β€’ Repeat 4–6 times β€’ Goal: Build strength, climbing technique, and confidence on varied terrain. If you can’t hold a conversation, you’re going too hard. 2. Improve Your Cadence Aim for 85–95 RPM instead of grinding heavy gears at 60–70 RPM. Higher cadence = less muscular fatigue = longer endurance. 3. Fuel Before You’re Hungry Eat carbs 30–45 minutes before your ride (banana, oats, toast). On rides longer than 60–75 minutes, consume 30–60g carbs per hour. No fuel = early fatigue. 4. Hydrate Early Don’t wait until you’re thirsty. Small sips every 10–15 minutes. Add electrolytes for rides over 90 minutes. Even slight dehydration kills performance. 5. Train Your Aerobic Base Long Zone 2 rides (easy conversational pace) build endurance better than constant high-intensity efforts. Think: slow now = faster and longer later. 6.
