The athlete must remain relaxed, maintain the correct arm stroke and put the foot down under their centre of mass (COM). 🔆Why is this important❓ 🔆If the foot lands ahead of the knee or in front of your (COM) "reaching". The athlete will produce unnecessary braking ❌ forces which will result in a loss ❌ of speed allowing them to slow down quicker. The athlete will also stay longer❌ on the ground and must wait for their (COM) to travel over the foot in order to push into the next stride. 🔆If the athlete's torso is leaned too far forward. With each stride, the athlete will be forced to catch themselves with their landing foot. Resulting in a high back kick ( less front side mechanics and more backside mechanics). ,🔆When you're upright, with your feet landing below your (COM) it is easier to run faster.
