To provide redundant links, multiple connections are done between switches. But this redundancy mechanism can cause an undesirable situation that is called β€œL2 Loop”. To provide L2 redundancy and to avoid L2 loops, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) has been developed. In this lesson we will focus STP Overview. Spanning-Tree Protocol (STP) prevents loops from being formed when switches or bridges are interconnected via multiple paths. Spanning-Tree Protocol implements the 802.1D IEEE algorithm by exchanging BPDU messages with other switches to detect loops, and then removes the loop. .
