Ever wondered what an exercise stress test is? It’s a diagnostic tool that helps doctors see how your heart responds to physical activity. It’s useful for detecting coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, safe exercise zones, giving confidence with heart disease and lots of other heart conditions. Routinely in stress tests we use the ‘Bruce Protocol’ which involves 3 minutes stages. The stages are: Stage 1- 2.7km/ hour with a 10% gradient Stage 2- 4.0km/ hour with a 12% gradient Stage 3- 5.4km/ hour with a 14% gradient Stage 4- 6.7km/ hour with a 16% gradient Stage 5- 8km/ hour with a 18% gradient Stage 6- 8.8km/ hour with a 20% gradient Stage 7- 9.6km/ hour with a 22% gradient We calculate your max HR at the start of the test by 220 bpm minus your current age. Then get you to at least 90% of that for a complete stress test! During the stress test you will be connected to an ECG to see the hearts electrical activity and have your blood pressure monitored… you will be encouraged to exercise for as long as you can or until you reach your heart rate maximum (as above), unless you get symptoms requiring you to stop or its unsafe to continue. A good test would be considered over 9 (stage 3) minutes… for reference pilot licences in the UK need to achieve 12 minutes (stage 4) with no concerning changes! If you’re interested in the heart rate side of the test, put on them your chest strap or heart rate watch and give it a go. Ensure you have no concerns over your health before attempting ❤️‍🩹. Do you want to know if your heart is up for the challenge? A stress test/echo can give you the answers. Book at your local cardiologist for formal testing! Or if you’re interested in an individual exercise prescription programmes, book an appt at @cardiocareclinic_ in Bondi junction📍❤️‍🩹 #bruceprotocol #stresstest #heartfunction #fitnesstest #cardiovascular #runningchallenge #exercisephysiology #cardiocareclinic #cardiovascularhealth #hearthealthclub

So this was fun…A cardiac stress test is used to assess how well the heart responds to physical activity, monitoring blood & oxygen flow. During the test, you walk on a treadmill while hooked up to an EKG to monitor your heart’s activity. Every 10 minutes they increase speed & incline, testing how quickly exercise leads to shortness of breath, specifying the level of heart failure. (and the get-up is extremely comfortable, not at all awkward or cumbersome🙄) Let’s just say I killed it. 😉 I may have Heart Failure, but Heart Failure doesn’t have Me. I choose to say Heart Success & have proved it. I’m still here. CHF is a permanent condition, but so is my will. My mental and emotional resilience fueled the physical, which takes a lot of consistent work. Though it took about a year for my heart/body to regulate to the combination of meds & regimen, I’m proud and grateful to be stable, meaning LIVING with activity & now minimized check-ups/care from my incredibly supportive CHF team. I’m grateful to be able to do the things I love to do, though sometimes it looks or is done differently. If the tortoise wins the race, I’m determined to be the FloJo of tortoises. “Nothin’s gonna break my stride. Nobody’s gonna slow me down. I’ve got to keep on movin.’” 🎶 I hope this resonates with someone, as you’re not alone in the struggle. Just remember joy is a choice. Tortoises unite! You’ve got this. “Share Your Heart” ❤️🤟🏼, Elise #chf #chd #heartfailure #shareyourheart #resilience #heartfailuresurvivor #americanheartassociation

A mini stress test — Most of us need to calm our nervous system. Not a validated study just a fun test. just a note that I shared this because I looked at this image several times when I was tired and it was moving and then I woke up in the morning, relax and fresh, and it was still. I shared this with you because of my personal experience. Again, I want to emphasize that it’s just a fun test and something to bring awareness to your stress levels. This is not a validated way to check if you’re stressed. Credit: It is an optical illusion image created by an artist named Yurii Peripadia

An exercise stress test helps determine how well your heart responds during times when it’s working its hardest. It typically involves walking on a treadmill or pedaling on a stationary bike while hooked up to an EKG to monitor your heart’s activity. A stress test is a very commonly performed test to learn: 1) How well your heart pumps blood. 2) Whether your heart is receiving an adequate blood supply. 3) How you perform on physical activity (riding a treadmill or stationary bike) compared with other people your age and sex. 4) If your symptoms (chest discomfort, shortness of breath, feeling like your heart is racing or even dizziness) can be reproduced while performing physical activity. This makes it easier to identify and evaluate certain heart issues, such as: 1) Issues with your muscle or valves. 2) Adequate blood supply to your heart muscle. 3) Electric stability of your heart at rest and during exercise. Cardiac stress tests help healthcare providers determine whether you need additional — often more invasive — testing to confirm a diagnosis or if treatment might lower your heart attack risk and make you feel better. If you found this useful, share it with your loved ones right now, it may just save a life! ❤️ . . . . #TheSportsOrtho . . . . . . #fitness #healthylifestyle #hearthealth #education #selfcare #motivation #weightloss

ad. The last one is my favourite way to de-stress on the commute. I always want to turn up for work events replenished and ready to be at my best. On the way home I do the same to return to calm after being on high alert all day. As I often have to travel on noisy trains and planes, Samsung let me try the new Galaxy Buds4 Pro, which has the most advanced noise cancellation and direct access to nature soundscapes through the Samsung Health app. They are super comfortable and now come with me wherever I go. Do you find noisy environments stressful too? Let me know in the comments. Other tips for reducing stress include: 1. Moving the body. Whether it’s the gym or simply going for a walk, exercise will help you recover from stresses of the day. 2. Reduce sensory load. Close down emails, switch off the news and anything else that keeps the stress levels high. All your mind the chance to completely switch off from it all. 3. Talk. Putting into words the stresses you have been facing and sharing that with someone you trust is an effective way to calm the nervous system. #stress #stressed #samsungmobile #SamsungPartner #GalaxyBuds4Pro

What Did You See First? A Moment-in-Time Stress Test This quick test offers a snapshot of how your nervous system is currently interpreting the world around you. There's no right or wrong answer—just a clue about your present moment. Decoding Your Instant Reaction 👣 If you saw the FEET first... Your perception is currently tuned to *movement and direction*. This often means your mind is in a state of "doing" — you might be focused on a goal, trying to outrun a problem, or feeling the urge to escape a situation. Your nervous system is alert and mobilized. The message from your brain is: "We are in motion. Let's keep going." While this shows drive, it's a gentle reminder to check if you're running *towards* something you want, or just *away* from something you don't. 🦈 If you saw the SHARK first... Your perception is currently tuned to *potential threats and details*. This indicates your nervous system is in a state of heightened vigilance or hyperarousal. You might be scanning for what could go wrong, feeling on edge, or picking up on underlying tensions in your environment. This reflects a strong survival instinct and deep analytical ability. The message from your brain is: "Let's be careful. Let's assess the risk." The key here is to acknowledge the alertness without letting it tip into overwhelming anxiety. A Quick Practice to Reset Your "Now" If this snapshot revealed some tension, here's a 3-minute practice designed to ground you back in the present moment and gently shift your state. "5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique" This exercise uses your senses to pull your focus away from stressful thoughts and anchor it in your immediate surroundings. 1. Acknowledge 5 things you see around you. (e.g., "I see a blue cup, a ray of sunlight, a book, my hand, a green plant.") 2. Acknowledge 4 things you can touch around you. (e.g., "I feel the texture of my chair, the smoothness of my phone, the fabric of my clothes, the cool air on my skin.") 3. Acknowledge 3 things you hear. (e.g., "I hear the hum of the computer, a bird outside, the sound of my own breathing.") 4. Acknowledge 2 things you can smell. (e.g., "I smell the faint scent of coffee, the freshness .....

Decoding the Results 👣 If you saw the FEET first — your nervous system signals that you're living in a mode of high activity and determination. You manage emotions well, but it requires constant effort. Your brain is saying: "I'm handling it, but I need a reset." This is a normal reaction to stressful events — it's just important to slow down in time. 🦈 If you saw the SHARK first — this may indicate that your vigilance is heightened. You might be feeling internal tension or underestimating yourself right now. But there's good news: you're capable of deep self-analysis and possess leadership potential. The key is not letting perfectionism drain all your energy. A Quick Practice for Your Nervous System Here's a simple exercise that takes just 3 minutes and helps reduce internal tension: "4-7-8 Breathing" — a technique for instant calming: Breathe in through your nose for a count of 4. Hold your breath for a count of 7. Slowly exhale through your mouth for a count of 8. Repeat 3-4 times. This practice activates the parasympathetic nervous system — the part responsible for relaxation and recovery. You're literally giving your brain the command: "It's safe now, you can rest". ⚠️ Important: This is not a diagnosis, but a scientific clue for self-care. If the result resonated with you — follow and share with loved ones who might find it helpful #StressResponse #NervousSystemHealth #BrainScience

Agree or disagree with this take on stress?🧠 Pressure and stress can spark intense debate—are they necessary drivers of success or silent killers? Let’s break it down: Why Pressure Is Valid 💪 Keeps You Sharp 🔍 - Pressure activates your brain’s alertness, focus, and drive, making life feel purposeful and exciting. It’s a natural motivator to get things done. Fuels Growth 🌱 - Challenges push you out of your comfort zone, sparking personal and professional growth. Without it, stagnation can set in. Beats Boredom 📉 - A life without goals or meaningful challenges can lead to boredom, which may feel draining and unfulfilling over time. Why Pressure Can Be Harmful ⚠️ Burnout Risk 🔥 - Too much pressure can lead to chronic stress, impacting mental and physical health, causing exhaustion, and even reducing productivity over time. Stress Isn’t Always Motivating ⚡ - Constant pressure can trigger anxiety or a fight-or-flight response, making it harder to think clearly or enjoy the process. Balance Matters ⚖️ - A life solely driven by pressure may leave little room for rest, creativity, or meaningful connections—all essential for long-term fulfillment. 👀share what you see 👀 Re-posting this because a lot of you asked me to so that you can re-test at a different time and see if it changes for you based on your current state of mind/being. Thanks to all the commenters who corrected the caption. Here’s what’s up: It was created by Yurii Perepadia, a Ukrainian graphic designer, on Sept 26, 2016. Perepadia has publicly said he built it using principles popularized by psychologist Akiyoshi Kitaoka BUT There could be something to the stress test… BECAUSE The illusion’s strength fluctuates depending how your eyes are moving moment to moment. These are known to change with arousal, cognitive load, fatigue, and emotional events, which could make the illusion feel stronger or weaker at different times.
