Parallel bar triceps dips Bar dips were originally an exercise for the triceps. The triceps are a three headed muscle and all three heads are involved in the work. To load the triceps, you should choose bars that are not too wide, only slightly wider than the shoulder width. When lowering the trunk the elbows should be as close to your body as possible - It is strictly forbidden to bring the shoulders out sideways. Keep the trunk and the head straight and do not bend. With wider bars, part of the load is shifted to the pectoral muscles. Instruction • Grasp the parallel bars with straightened arms, and do not bend your arms. Use a regular grip - palms are facing the body. • Slowly go down during the inhale. Lower yourself down until your elbows are bent at approximately 90 degrees. From the bottom position, unbend your arms and rise upwards while exhaling. Warning • A major mistake in bar dips is partial execution, which is when people don't fully lower the body (the shoulders remain above or at the elbow level). Such a movement is simpler, but the muscles of the chest are only partially involved in the work. • Another common mistake is directing the elbows out to the sides, and not backwards. Make sure that your elbows are as close to the body as possible.
