Birth balls are for so much more than just birth, you can utilize it for birth prep movements, as a chair for eating or work, for lounging around the house, AND even postpartum to help rock those babies to sleep when they forget that we sleep at night! While all Hospitals have a birth ball you can use and you may not need to bring it to birth. Depending on your height it may not be the right size for your body, so could be an extra item to bring if you remember it too! If you’re struggling with pregnancy pain - including lower back, hip, and pelvic pain - using the ball to facilitate movement can be incredibly helpful. Here are 5 movements you can do daily, especially in that third trimester. There can also overlap into labor and birth prep so a great double whammy. 1. Pelvic tilts To improve pelvic mobility, reduce stiffness in the lower back. 2. Hip circles To encourage movement of the lower back, pelvis and hips. Improve body awareness and coordination through the pelvis. Gentle movement to reduce muscle guarding. 3. Adductor rockbacks To decrease tension in inner thighs, lats, and hips. 4. Lunge rocks To increase mobility through the hips and pelvis, stretch hip flexors. 5. 3-way child’s pose Lengthen through the lower back and pelvic floor, with stretch through the side body and lats as you reach each way.
