Much like a golfer chooses different clubs and adjusts their swing to meet the demands of different situations on a golf course, so too a quarterback has to make adjustments to their arm path in order to accomplish different outcomes in different situations. Notice the shorter motion (especially break phase) for the quick, short pass over the middle, vs the “normal” break for the more standard, midrange throw. The best players can make these adjustments to the length, angles, and position of their throwing motion on the fly to fit whatever situation they find themselves in during a game. #variability #qbmechanics #qbtraining #qbmotion #qb1 #quarterback #nfl

“Complex systems are weakened, even killed, when deprived of stressors.” Your body is a complex system. If you perform the same routine day in and day out, you become weakened to variability. This holds true for movement patterns – You can get really good at the low bar back squat, but what if you can’t split squat proficiently? What does this say when you get in sport and the same exact movement doesn’t present itself twice? If you only do one thing, you are only prepared for one thing. Not only is it a good idea to use a high degree of variability to be more resilient to soreness, but also to reduce the overuse seen from performing the same exact pattern over and over. Variable Practice Fast bowlers are better developed with a spectrum of intensity @pacelablimited training sessions always have a variation theme running throughs its core I’m firmly against drilling for drilling sake searching for that ideal one size fits all model Repetition with repetition is an outdated way of coaching fast bowlers. Every delivery performed is always different. So a 30min bowling session consists of between 30-40 different deliveries. They are never the same. So the repetition for practice of the same technique argument falls way short at this point Even when working on pinnacle max effort run and gun bowling I will always intersperse submaximal bowling deliveries to create a VARIABLE PRACTICE environment Whether a different method of bowling, different weighted balls, different run up lengths or different INTENT LEVELS. Simply doing the same thing is not in the PaceLab Training System Why? Avoids injuries due to the constant change in delivery. Based on the VARIABILITY OVERUSE HYPOTHESIS The variable bowling ladder is a great method to use. It’s a form of wave loading of bowling INTENT. Based on ‘REWZON LONG JUMP STUDY’ “ which showed that a group of long jumpers that would jump, trying to hit a series of target distances, the majority of which were submaximal, eventually out-jumped another group of jumpers that simply jumped all-out every jump” @justflysports So basically it’s not about bowling flat out every delivery. It’s about setting clear speeds that the bowler has to hit. They vary from max effort to sub maximal. This also creates a strong awareness from the bowler on what max effort is. Understanding RPE becomes easier. Basically, bowling for a spectrum of speeds will yield a more robust motor programme than a bowler who only tries to grind maximal speeds every single attempt. It also is less taxing on the nervous system, which allows a lower stress response over time, and better adaptation” It’s not about training like this every session but it’s about listening to the bowler and following the ball speeds. Again PACELAB AREG is the only solution. If a bowler doesn’t feel it, just simply perform a BOWLING LADDER.

The assumption is that beginners need strict repetition, rigid positions, and perfectly consistent execution before any variability is introduced. • At #uofstrength, we see it differently. •• Even at the foundation level, we build in small, intentional variability, not to complicate training, but to accelerate learning. ••• Our goal: Similar outcomes & different movement solutions. •••• 🔹Low outcome variability = same result 🔹High functional variability = different paths to get there ••••• Example: In a goblet squat, a partner provides unpredictable tactile information. The youthlete pauses 2–3 seconds when contact occurs. •••••• It sharpens awareness, builds decision-making, and helps the individual feel the movement instead of just copying it. •••••••• For novices, variability should be: ▪️Simple ▪️Limited in scope ▪️Directly tied to the movement goal ▪️Used to guide exploration, not create confusion ••••••••• We’re not making exercises harder.
