🤰 20-Week Anomaly Scan — What Exactly Do Doctors Check? 🩺👶 The anomaly scan is one of the most important pregnancy scans, usually done around 18–22 weeks, to carefully assess your baby’s development and overall well-being. Here’s what doctors mainly look for 👇 🧠 1. Baby’s Anatomy Check A detailed head-to-toe examination of baby’s organs including brain, heart chambers, spine, stomach, kidneys, bladder, hands & feet to ensure normal development. ❤️ 2. Heartbeat & Placenta Position Baby’s heartbeat and blood flow are assessed, and placenta position is checked to rule out concerns like low-lying placenta. 📏 3. Baby’s Growth Measurements Head size, abdominal size and thigh bone length are measured to confirm baby’s growth matches pregnancy age. 💧 4. Amniotic Fluid Levels Adequate fluid around the baby is essential for movement, lung development, and protection. ⏱️ Scan usually takes 20–40 minutes, and sometimes longer if baby’s position needs adjustment. ✨ Tip: Eat normally, stay relaxed, and carry previous reports. 📌 Save this post so you know exactly what to expect before your scan. 💬 COMMENT BELOW: 👉 Have you done your anomaly scan yet? 👉 Which week of pregnancy are you in right now? ❤️ Follow @drdevyanigynec_bloom for trusted pregnancy guidance every week. #anomalyscan #pregnancyscan #20weekspregnant #pregnancycare #pregnancytips momstobe indianmom secondtrimester pregnancyjourney babydevelopment ultrasoundscan obstetrician pregnancyeducation expectingmom maternalhealth newparents pregnancyreels gynecologisttips prenatalcare motherhoodjourney

🫀 When can you see your baby’s heartbeat? ✔️ A heartbeat can often be detected via transvaginal ultrasound around 6 weeks gestation. ✔️ Going too early might not show a heartbeat yet, leading to unnecessary worry. Also even seeing a heartbeat on a very early scan doesn’t guarantee that the pregnancy won’t later be miscarried, although it is less likely. False reassurance can be heartbreaking as the scans don’t change the outcome and you get your hopes up only to be dashed later. ✔️ If unsure, waiting a bit longer or consulting your healthcare provider is advisable. 💬 Did you have an early scan? 📹:

Every scan gives you a snapshot of your baby’s health. Here’s what your doctor looks at and why it matters: 1️⃣ Heartbeat ❤️ Confirms your baby’s heart is beating normally. A strong, regular heartbeat is the first sign of a healthy baby. 2️⃣ Umbilical Cord Around Neck 🔄 Doctors check if the cord is around the neck (nuchal cord). Most of the time it’s safe, but monitoring is important to prevent complications. 3️⃣ Placental Position 🌸 The placenta’s location affects delivery. Low-lying placenta (placenta previa) can increase risks, so knowing its position helps plan ahead. 4️⃣ Amniotic Fluid / Liquor 💧 Adequate amniotic fluid keeps the baby safe and helps with growth and movement. Low or high levels may need closer monitoring. 5️⃣ Baby Weight ⚖️ Tracking your baby’s weight ensures proper growth. It helps detect if the baby is underweight or overweight for gestational age. ⸻ ✨ Bottom line: Every scan is more than a cute picture — it’s a vital check for your baby’s health. 💌 Save this for your next appointment & stay informed! ♥️👶🏻Early pregnancy is a delicate and very important phase. An early obstetric scan helps confirm that the pregnancy is developing safely and normally, and gives valuable information ℹ️ for planning further antenatal care.🤰 📌 Why is Early Pregnancy Scan Important? ✔ Confirms pregnancy location Ensures pregnancy is inside the uterus and helps rule out ectopic pregnancy, which can be dangerous if missed. 🩸 ✔ Confirms pregnancy viability (heartbeat) ❣️ Fetal heartbeat is usually seen around 5.5 – 6 weeks, helping confirm a viable pregnancy. ✔ Accurate pregnancy dating & due 📅 First trimester crown-rump length measurement gives the most accurate gestational age and helps plan pregnancy care. ✔ Detects single or multiple pregnancy 👯‍♂️ early Helps identify twin or multiple pregnancies and allows early monitoring. ✔ Helps detect some early pregnancy complications Helps identify miscarriage risk🩸, ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, or adnexal masses needing follow-up. ✔ May also detect some gynaecological conditions During the scan, uterus and ovaries are also evaluated. Conditions like fibroids, ovarian cysts, or adnexal masses may sometimes be detected and monitored if needed. 📅 When is Early Pregnancy Scan Usually Done? 👉 Around 6 – 9 weeks in most pregnancies 👉 Sometimes earlier if pain, bleeding, previous losses, or fertility treatment 👉 Some patients may have first scan later based on clinical scenario Many doctors recommend first scan around 6 – 8 weeks after missed period depending on clinical history. ⚠️Why Not To Scan Too Early? If scan is done before 5–6 weeks: • Baby may not be visible • Heartbeat may not be detectable • May cause unnecessary anxiety Sometimes a repeat scan after 7–10 days may be needed if the first scan is too early. Early reassurance → Better monitoring → Better pregnancy outcomes👶🏻 👉If you recently had a positive pregnancy test, talk to your doctor about the right time for your first scan.📺 #EarlyPregnancyScan #FirstTrimesterCare #PregnancyUltrasound #HealthyPregnancy #OBGYNDoctor yours trusted Gynaecologist 💗👩🏻‍⚕️

Pregnancy scans, primarily ultrasounds, monitor fetal development, confirm due dates, check for abnormalities, and assess overall health, with key ones including the Dating Scan (early), NT Scan (11-14 weeks for genetic risk), Anomaly Scan (18-22 weeks for detailed anatomy), and Growth/Doppler Scans (third trimester for growth and blood flow). These scans use sound waves to create images, helping doctors track the baby's growth, organs, and wellbeing throughout the pregnancy.

When baby is not seen at 4-5 weeks scan? When a baby is not seen at 4-5 weeks scan, it is usually normal and not always a problem. Why this can happen? 1. Too early in pregnancy At 4-5 weeks, the pregnancy is still very smal. Sometimes only the gestational sac is seen 2. Late ovulation / wrong dates If ovulation happened later than expected, the pregnancy may be younger than calculated 3. Type of scan matters A transvaginal scan sees earlier than an abdominal scan. 4. Ectopic pregnancy (rare but serious) If there is pain or bleeding and nothing is seen in the uterus, doctors may check for ectopic pregnancy. What usually happens next?? * Repeat scan after 1-2 weeks * Blood test (hCG levels) to see if pregnancy hormone is rising properly In most cases, especially without severe pain or heavy bleeding, doctors simply repeat the scan and monitor.

This goes out for all mommies~to~be, do not ignore your pregnancy scans. Save this list for know how on the absolutely essential scans: 1. First scan to assess your baby’s heartbeat(around 6-8 weeks of gestation) 2. First trimester screening for zNT/NB scan (11-13+6 weeks) 3. Anomaly scan/Level II TIFFA scan (between 18-22 weeks). 4. Third trimester growth scan and Doppler flows. Please note that these are the most essential ones. Ideally, you’re supposed to do scans as per the pregnancy requirement. Typically, the IVF pregnancies that I deal with will need many more ultrasound scans for evaluation. But the ❤️bare minimum❤️ is this!
