Optimal Push-up Weight Distribution! 1️⃣ Imagine creating an arch with your hands just like you would with your feet - almost cup the floor and then “corkscrew” your hands to create external rotation torque. 2️⃣ Spread those hands and fingers apart. We often see folks do push-ups with tightly sealed fingers pointed straight ahead. Create a bigger base for yourself and grip the floor! The same technique can be applied for kneeling push-ups or elevated push-ups where your hands are on a bench/squat rack. Doing pushups a goal of yours? I prefer this modification over knee push-ups. When you drop to your knees, you shorten the lever which makes the movement a lot less demanding on your core. A big part of the push-up is the full-body stability challenge. Knees down takes a lot of that out of the equation. This version lets you keep the long lever (and core engagement) while still adjusting the load. Try 8–10 reps, 3 rounds, for a few weeks. When it starts to feel solid, Grab a lighter band and keep building.

I used dumbbells instead of going flat on the floor. WHY? Because wrists flat on the floor is painful for a lot of people — and that pain is exactly why so many women skip push-ups altogether. Holding dumbbells keeps your wrists neutral, and suddenly push-ups don't hurt anymore. Start where YOU are today. Not where you think you should be. Every single version builds real strength — in your chest, shoulders, arms, and core. Progress, not perfection. Always. 💪 🔖 Save this so you never skip push-ups again.

And like any skill, you build it through the right progression. Here’s where to start: ✅ Wall push-ups — learn body alignment and control ✅ Incline push-ups — reduce the load while building strength ✅ Knee push-ups — train the pressing pattern with confidence ✅ Negative push-ups — control the lowering phase ✅ Full push-ups — earn the rep with proper form This is why at TMA we don’t throw people into random workouts and hope they survive.
