How I went from running a 5km in 28mins to 23mins with a knee injury👇🏻 STRENGTH TRAINING I aimed for strength training about 2-3 times a week alongside my running SLEEP I made sure I was getting good sleep between 7-8 hours a night to ensure my body was well rested INCREASING CADENCE I increased my cadence which helps reduce load through my knee which made a huge difference REDUCED PACE AND DISTANCE I always went out full pace trying to always beat PBs but I found this flared my knee up quickly and set me back. I also used to aim for completing big distances instead of celebrating the small wins like running 2km pain free Comment below if you are suffering from an injury and what you have found to help👇🏻 I am here to help! It took me six years to run five kilometers. 🏃🏻‍♀️✨ Most people post their 5k wins a few weeks into a program, but for me, this was a half decade battle with starting and stopping. I started in 2020 for my mental health, quit after two months, and spent the next few years convinced that “being a runner” just wasn’t in my DNA. Every year since, I’ve tried. This year, I chose discipline - which meant going out regardless of the weather and, more importantly, when I simply didn’t feel like it. Through the minor shin splints and hip aches, I just kept showing up. I also owe a massive thank you to my fiancé. He took his role as head cheerleader very seriously - from joining me on my runs when they got long, to being there with a sticker for my reward chart every time I hit a new milestone. (Yes, I’m an adult with a sticker chart, and yes, it worked). ⭐ I’ve spent six years trying to find a ‘runner’s high,’ but I found something better: the pride of finally keeping a promise to myself. 🥹❤️ I’m feeling proud, and I’m going to keep it up (what a wonderful early birthday gift to myself!) @runna @strava #running #beginnerrunner #runna #5km #myfirst5k
