Here’s what I would tell myself going into my first c-section (as I was sobbing on the way to the OR!) ➕You are going to be ok! - I was so nervous about being awake during surgery, but when you’re in that situation, you just do what you have to do. And you WILL be ok! ➕Go ahead and buy the granny panties. - Trust me, you’re not going to want anything touching your incision for awhile. ➕Stay at the hospital as long as they will let you. - A bed that sits you up and lays you down? Yes please! After you have a c-section, that is the worst part….getting in and out of bed. Enjoy that while you have it! ➕If you have a recliner at home, sleep there! - I didn’t have one and always had to build a mountain of pillows behind to sleep. But I always thought a recliner would be so nice after a c-section! ➕You will still have a deep connection with your baby even though you don’t get the immediate skin to skin time. - I always wanted the immediate skin to skin time, but it just wasn’t possible at my hospital after C-sections. (I definitely asked!) But I can tell you, it didn’t affect my deep connections that I thankfully had with my babies. ➕Find a good pelvic floor therapist in your area. - All postpartum moms NEED to go to a pelvic floor therapist afterwards. Our bodies have been through SO much, and pelvic floor therapist are so good for recovery and getting your body back to functioning normally. ➕Do scar tissue massage. - I didn’t even know about this after my first c-section, but scar tissue massage (when you’re ready and at least 6 weeks postpartum) is really key after a c-section. Having a c-section was never my plan, and I did SO many things to avoid it. (I even had my second baby successfully flipped at 37 weeks when he was breached.)
