Give the pendulum arm a push and watch as gravity and the earth's rotation take over creating geometric patterns in the sand. The fine sand provides minimal friction allowing the pendulum to swing for up to 5 minute periods as it gently "writes". The post shares a viral video clip demonstrating pendulum physics: a girl safely lies under a released ball that stops short due to energy conservation, contrasted with a man pushing it, causing rebound to his face for comedic effect. Posted December 22, 2025, by @masvdcss , it quickly gained over 2 million views and 75 replies, mostly humorous, including a query on video authenticity debunked as staged with a helmet, not AI. Rooted in real physics education demos, the setup illustrates that without external force, a pendulum's swing height matches release height, per conservation laws; pushing injects extra energy, risking overswing as shown in mechanics textbooks like Halliday & Resnick.

This is a physical demonstration of 15 uncoupled pendulums, each with a slightly different length. Released at the same time, their individual frequencies cause the entire system to create traveling waves, standing waves, beats, and even moments of apparent "chaos". But nothing here is random. The longest pendulum completes 51 oscillations in 60 seconds. Each shorter one swings one more time than the last, so the shortest (15th) completes 65 oscillations per minute. Over time, their motions drift in and out of sync, creating mesmerizing wave patterns (all due to small frequency differences). Each pendulum swings in simple harmonic motion, like a sine wave in space and time. It helps visualizing: • Constructive and destructive interference • Phase shifts over time • Beats, wave patterns, and synchronization • A real-life, physical Fourier visualization This is not just a toy, this is actually how oscillatory systems, sound waves, and even quantum states behave. It is pretty much some string, weight, and math together, after all. (**Originally designed by Richard Berg (Am. J. This X post shares a viral TikTok video from late 2024 depicting a botched physics demonstration, where a participant incorrectly pushes a bowling ball pendulum instead of releasing it, eliciting a surprised "You're not supposed to push it!" reaction amid laughter. The experiment illustrates conservation of energy in pendulums: when released from a height matching the person's face, the ball should stop short due to gravity alone, but added force increases amplitude, risking collision—a principle confirmed in basic mechanics texts like Halliday & Resnick's Fundamentals of Physics. Posted by a Turkish Fenerbahçe fan account on January 20, 2026, the clip amassed over 4.4 million views and 2,700 likes, sparking 155 replies mostly joking about the physics mishap, highlighting how relatable science fails drive online humor.

Poor mister Phill almost got hurt! . The simple pendulum experiment using a bowling ball vividly demonstrates both the laws of motion and the hazards of misunderstanding physics. In the setup, a teacher sits in a chair, facing away from a suspended bowling ball. A student pulls the ball back to the teacher’s head and releases it without pushing, allowing it to swing back naturally. According to physics, the ball should return only as far as its initial height, thanks to energy conservation and air resistance. However, when the ball completes its first swing, another student intervenes, pushing the ball back toward the teacher. This action introduces external force, violating the experiment’s rules and creating a hazardous situation. Just before the ball could hit the teacher, the original student stops it in time, preventing injury. This scenario underscores two important lessons. First, the science of pendulums works only when external forces are absent. Second, safety is paramount in demonstrations—unexpected interference can have dangerous consequences. #PhysicsExperiment #Pendulum #ConservationOfEnergy #ScienceSafety #HarmonicMotion #PhysicsTeachingMoments
