They want continuous fetal monitoring?
Ask for wireless.
Here’s why it matters.
First, let’s talk about when you actually need continuous monitoring:
✅ High-risk pregnancy
✅ Epidural or Pitocin
✅ Baby showing signs of distress
✅ VBAC or other medical indications
✅ Induction and on Pitocin
But here’s what most moms don’t know:
Continuous monitoring doesn’t mean you have to be stuck in bed with wires strapped to your belly for hours.
Wireless monitoring exists.
And it changes everything.
With wireless monitors:
🚿 You can shower
🛁 You can get in the tub
🚶♀️ You can walk the halls
💃 You can move through labor positions
🧘♀️ You can use the birth ball, squat, lean, sway
You’re still being monitored continuously
the nurses can see baby’s heart rate and your contractions on their screens.
But YOU get to move your body the way it needs to move.
This is what my daughter used during her labor.
She could shower, get into the tub, and move freely while still being monitored the entire time.
Most hospitals have wireless monitors.
They just don’t always offer them unless you ask.
So if your nurse says you need continuous monitoring (and you agree), ask:
“Do you have wireless monitoring available?”
Movement helps labor progress.
Movement reduces pain.
Movement helps baby descend.
Don’t let wires keep you stuck in bed when you don’t have to be.

LUMy VBAC Birth Story ❤️
My first baby was born 3 years ago. I experienced intense labour pain, but suddenly my baby’s heart rate dropped and I had to undergo an emergency C-section.
When I conceived again, I was very clear that I wanted to try for a VBAC (normal delivery after C-section). So I found a doctor who truly supported VBAC. As advised, I started walking regularly from 20 weeks of pregnancy and began prenatal yoga from 28 weeks.
My due date was January 9. The doctor told me that if labour pain started naturally before that, I could get admitted. But no matter how much I walked, exercised, or even danced, natural labour pain didn’t start.
So I was advised to get admitted between January 5 and January 9 for induction — and I chose January 8, hoping my baby would be born on January 9, the same birth date as my first son ❤️
But on January 5, I suddenly got severe cold and cough. I was honestly very scared… why at this crucial time? Still, I didn’t give up. I continued walking nearly 10,000 steps every day and did birth-ball exercises with full determination.
Finally… on the morning of January 8, we left for the hospital with hope, courage, and prayers in our hearts 🤍

MABABY NUMBER 2 HOSPITAL BAG! 🍼👶🏼 Come along with me and pack my hospital bag as a second time mum hoping for a VBAC… last time I packed my hospital bag I mainly just used one big bag and felt like I spent majority of the stay rummaging through searching for what I needed! This time around I’ve split everything up and made sure I have absolutely anything and everything I could need to make my time as comfortable as possible! (No fear of overpacking here haha… cause honestly what’s the worst that happens? It’s coming home with me anyway!) Last year, when I found out we were expecting just one baby I knew I couldn’t consent to a fifth c-section. I just couldn’t. My last 8 babies were delivered by surgery and I didn’t have a peace in my heart about having another surgery unless it became truly necessary. So, after lots of prayer and research, I decided to do everything I could to have the birth I wanted. I later learned it wasn’t just the birth I wanted, but the redemptive birth I so desperately needed.
If you are in a similar place and are considering a VBAC, here are some things you’ll want to know as you prepare...
1. A supportive provider is everything. If you don’t have a doctor or midwife who shares your views on birth, you have a much less chance of achieving or attempting the birth you want. I couldn’t have done it without my midwife, Lucie @indueseason_birth
2. Your birth is your responsibility. Even when we have a great provider, a great place (home, hospital, or birth center) to have our babies, no one cares more than us! We need to be diligent and invest in our births.
3. Make educating yourself a top priority.
4. Hire a doula (beyond grateful for mine @saraannphoto
5. Eat well, hydrate and move your body
6. Release fear. I know for myself, recognizing specific fears and giving them to the Lord, was one of the best things I could do. We must look at the benefits and risks of the choices we make in pregnancy and labor. No birth is risk free. BUT, when we make the choice that is right for us, why not go forward in faith leaving fear behind and choose to trust God, our bodies and our babies.
7. Believe you can do it (with Gods help) and envision the birth that you want.
Though this is last on the list, I believe it is the most important. God created to do amazing things.
