Set primarily at Britain’s top-secret code-breaking center, Bletchley Park, the story follows Turing as he leads a team of mathematicians and linguists to crack the seemingly unbreakable Enigma machine. Despite his genius, Turing struggles with social isolation and faces suspicion and resistance from his peers and superiors. The film also explores his friendship with fellow codebreaker Joan Clarke, who becomes one of his few allies. After the war, Turing is prosecuted for his homosexuality—then a criminal offense in the UK—leading to a tragic end despite his invaluable contributions to the Allied victory and the foundation of modern computing. Turing was a supergenius, and very sad that his massive contribution to the war effort was kept such a secret after the war, that people did not accord him the hero’s respect that he so rightly deserved. One of the most shameful episodes in the history of Britain.
