Break dance is an urban dance style that emerged in the 1970s as part of hip-hop culture. It is characterized by acrobatic movements, floor spins, body balance, and strong physical control. Japan owned it. Korea owned it. For years, the All Style category at Juste Debout — the Olympics of street dance — belonged to East Asia’s two giants. No one else even came close. Then a kid from Chongqing walked in. Li Yongqiu, 13 years old, first time competing outside China, first world title. But it’s not just that he won. It’s how he won. The DJ dropped music outside the breaking genre during the final round — a classic pressure move designed to expose weak dancers. Li didn’t flinch. He executed a UFO variation, a spinning head slide, and kung fu stances that made a French crowd erupt in a standing ovation. Not polite applause. Full explosion. He started training at age 5. Five to six days a week, every week, for eight years. His coach says he practiced windmill spins until his knees were bruised — and never once asked to stop. His secret? He went home and studied Bruce Lee documentaries. Not to copy the moves. To understand the philosophy. Then he put that philosophy into breaking. Juste Debout has 20 years of history. It has seen everything. The judges had never seen this. He said after winning: «I just want to bring honour to my country.» First international trip. First world gold. Next target: the Olympics. Rückblick✨ Genau vor einem Jahr und einem Monat erschien das Musikvideo „Gesegnet“ von Luciano – und ich hatte die Chance, ein Teil davon zu sein. Vielleicht hat man mich nur für eine Sekunde gesehen. Nur ein Move. Aber hinter dieser einen Sekunde stecken Jahre. Jahre voller Training. Voller Rückschläge. Voller Schweiß, Disziplin, Liebe und Leidenschaft für Breaking. Ich möchte zeigen, wie viel wir als Breaker wirklich reinstecken. Wie sehr wir für diesen Tanz leben. Wie viel Herz in jeder Bewegung steckt. Und trotzdem bekommen wir oft nicht die Anerkennung, die wir verdienen. Wir werden nicht wirklich gesehen. Vielleicht war Breaking vor 20 Jahren „in“. Vielleicht war es damals präsenter in den Medien. Aber wir sind immer noch da. Es gibt immer noch Menschen, die diesen Tanz lieben, die alles dafür geben und ihn mit Stolz weitertragen.
