There are certain activities on your travels that you will remember forever. Waking up in a bamboo hut surrounded by happy elephants is definitely one of them 🐘
We were really hesitant about visiting an elephant sanctuary as we didn’t want to support something bad for the animals or that had a zoo feel.
We did a lot of research and Chai Lai Orchid was the complete opposite. The animals just genuinely seemed like they were having such a good time. There was even some babies born on site that were super attached to the guides and played around, it was so cute.
This place takes the majority of their profits and reinvests in the local community. They have a strong focus on educating and employing girls as well as providing for refugees from Myanmar. Some of the elephants were rescued from circuses in Thailand, unethical “sanctuaries”, poaching and zoos.
Ideally we shouldn’t need animal sanctuaries but in the real world, this is about as good as it gets. There are barely any wild elephants left in Thailand and it is so nice to know that the ones that were abused in the past have safe places to go too.
Elephant sanctuary checklist ➡️
-All the elephants are rescued and they can’t be wild or released
-No riding
-No misstreatment (guides don’t carry sticks or whips)
-No chains ( look for chain marks on ankles)
-No uninvited touching or posing
-Large enclosures to keep them safe at night

NAWe took an 8 hour scenic boat ride to find this and it ruined every national park after it. No roads. No cell service. No people. Just glaciers, waterfalls, and water so still it mirrors the mountains perfectly.
This is Spire Cove tucked inside Kenai Fjords National Park in Alaska. We floated through here in complete silence. No other boats. No one around. Just us.

GLStoos Ridge is the most EPIC hike I’ve done in Switzerland.
I love it because you have Lake Lucerne on one side, jagged Alps on the other. Absolutely unreal bucket-list experience.
A few quick tips if you’re planning it: take the first lifts up so you beat the crowds. Bring layers (it gets cold and windy up top). Also, double check lift times before you go so you’re not stranded. If you miss the last chairlift down, you’ve basically got two choices: hike down or stay up on Stoos.
Fun fact: to get up to this hike, you get to ride the steepest funicular railway in the world! So it’s not just the hike that makes this experience unique.
The hike is called the Stoos Ridge hike, Klingenstock → Fronalpstock. It’s about 4.5 km one-way and most people take around 2 to 2.5 hours. But you’ll want to stop constantly for photos haha.

NAMost beautiful moment of my life 🔥
Drifting along side these gentle giants in the shallow part of the lagoon under the most pristine conditions felt nothing less than a dream. Other worldly… our captain @yazir_paredes02 had a gut feeling and took us there. Suddenly this mother and calf appeared, they left our whole boat speechless. Time stood still as we witnessed the most beautiful moment of our lives.
They stayed with us like this for 40 minutes.
