DA🌕🌑 Earth Hid The Sun Over The Moon
From the Moon's surface, Firefly's Blue Ghost photographed Earth hiding the Sun during the March 14 total lunar eclipse.
The lander was sitting in Mare Crisium on the near side when the sky turned into a hard ring of sunlight around our planet, a view nobody on Earth could watch directly.
That matters because the eclipse was seen in reverse from another world, not through a telescope at home.
Blue Ghost had already been operating for nearly two weeks after its March 2 landing, carrying 10 NASA science and technology payloads under the Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative.
NASA said all 10 payloads powered on and gathered data, and LuGRE achieved the first navigation solution on the Moon using Earth-based GPS and Galileo signals.
Other instruments returned laser measurements, captured X-ray images tied to space weather around Earth, and began probing the lunar interior and subsurface temperature.
That gives the image a real history layer, because navigation, interior science, and surface operations were all running together on one commercial lunar lander for the first time.
Seen from Mare Crisium, Earth looked less like a backdrop and more like a moving object that could darken the sky above an active science station.
