We don’t demonize cardio here. We train with respect for the body, move with intention, and allow grace when necessary. Typical Cardio Routine: *15k Steps *30 Min Incline Walk (last 30 min of my steps) *3-4 mile run (based on what my Runna training plan has scheduled for me) Note!: I listen to my body FIRST and adjust my cardio routine accordingly. For instance, if my legs need more rest. MY 2 CENTS ON CARDIO: There was a period where I experienced rapid weight gain while actually increasing my cardio. Part of it was nutrition (yes, unchecked “carb-loading”), but a much bigger piece was elevated cortisol. I didn’t need a test to tell me I was out of balance. I was constantly fatigued, inflamed, and lethargic. And the more I ran, the worse it got. I’ll save nutrition for another video and speak to the cortisol imbalance: When I realized running was aggravating my nervous system, I stopped completely. No cardio at all. Honestly, it was devastating. I love running, and being told (by my own body) to stop felt impossible. But deep down, I knew running itself wasn’t the enemy. My state was. So I went inward and started prioritizing nervous system regulation. I swapped running for walking. A lot of it. 15-25k steps a day. Within weeks, I saw more fat loss than I had in months of intense cardio. Walking also healed the part of me that was constantly in survival mode by introducing me to a peace that felt so foreign, at first. During my time off from running, I added a magnesium, ashwagandha, and L-theanine complex to my diet. Within 20 minutes, my tension would melt away. It genuinely felt like stepping into a calmer version of myself, like rose-tinted glasses. Again, no test needed. My body told me everything by the way it responded. Now? I’m running again. I love my sport. I’m building strength, endurance, and the physique I want, all at the same time because I put my internal health first. So while I am a BIG proponent of cardio, whether it be walking, stairs, incline, or running, I am an even bigger proponent of listening to your body signals and focusing on internal health as a foundation to produce the good external results. It’s ok to table cardio.
