MAIf you’re eating a David protein bar, you’re gut is going to hate you
If you’ve ever had a David bar and felt like your stomach hated you after… you’re not alone.
I used to love this bar—28g of protein, 150 cals, no sugar.
The macros were crazy. But then they changed the recipe. Now it’s full of sweeteners like sucralose, ace-K, stevia, plus fillers like allulose.
Those ingredients might help the label look clean, but they mess with your gut—gas, bloating, the works.
And there’s this thing called EPG in there too—a fat replacer that makes it creamy but isn’t fully absorbed.
That can cause issues on its own, especially if you already had other sugar alcohols or fiber-heavy stuff that day.
Some third-party testing even showed the protein might be lower and the calories higher than what’s on the label.
So if your gut’s a mess and you’re not even getting the full macro hit? That’s just annoying. I’m pissed and you should be too.
My take away is that if the David bar makes you feel off, it’s probably not just you being sensitive—the recipe now has a bunch of stuff that’s known to cause GI issues.

THDavid Protein just showed every brand how to handle bad PR.
While most brands run and hide from bad press, David set the record straight immediately and correctly.
They sent emails from the CEO, addressed it within 24 hours on IG, had their Director of R&D speak, and poked fun at the rumors that they were “Regina Georging” people.
It was the perfect balance of seriousness to funny that helped reclaim the moment.
They probably got $100M in earned media value…. So it begs the question, is all PR good PR? Time will definitely tell.

BIConsumer Labs says David Protein FAILED testing 🤯
Since I’m an investor in @davidprotein people were quick to come at me — so let’s break this down:
1️⃣ Fat content: David bars use an ingredient called EPG. It makes fat not digestible (9 kcal/g → 0.7 kcal/g). Lab tests use hydrolysis, which ‘unlocks’ those fats in testing but not in digestion. Translation: the bar isn’t actually higher in digestable fat — the test just can’t capture that.
2️⃣ Protein content: Early batches sometimes tested lower (23g vs 28g). That’s already fixed. Every batch is now tested to guarantee a minimum 28g protein.
3️⃣ The “anal leakage” myth: People compare EPG to olestra. WRONG. Olestra was solid at room temperature but melts at body temp (leakage). EPG is solid at room temperature and body temp — it passes normally as regular stool.
✅ I support independent testing like Consumer Labs and really appreciate what they do. But in this case, the fat test doesn’t reflect reality, and the protein issue was already solved. I’d never put my name behind a product I don’t believe in #davidprotein #consumerlab #wheyprotein
