CAIf you see one of these you’ll probably need an environmental agency to step in but a few things you can do on your own are:
• request owner/realtor records of the wells
• File a FOIR, FOIL or OPRA request with your state’s DEP.
• Hire an agency/firm
(at my old job we charged about $2,500 for the initial assessment but that was a while back - prices may have changed. Plus that was just to assess, it didn’t include any additional monitoring or lab work.)
Also this doesn’t affect your drinking water in most cases, I only mention it because it’s an added cost.

QUWhat scares me is the amount of young people who have told me that they are having a rough time getting a climate / environmental job and blaming themselves breaks my heart. It’s not you, it’s the system 😩
And while I am not here to dismay people, I’m hear to remind people that we have to do a better job to create pathways for young environmentalists to enter well paying jobs (that also include health insurance), because the truth is that recent graduates are having an incredibly rough time trying to break into the industry. I’ve personally have seen when it comes to funding programs that lots of brands and orgs don’t see the return to invest in young work force development because their priorities is to attract new funders (aka rich older people). And I keep thinking how when I graduated in 2018, it was an easier job market then it is now!!
I’m working at the @greenjobsboard at Climate Week NYC, a 3 day Pavilion centered on environmental careers for young people in different industries. We are going to have mentor and mentee workshops, professional headshots, and lots of fun! It’s free to enter at the Nest Climate Campus.

_MListen, I love my career but sometimes it can be really tough.
We are already faced with a high level of unpaid work and in addition to that unpaid work we are often throw into uncountable (and even unsafe) living conditions.
Personally, I don’t think we discuss the negatives of this field enough with the public and rather keep these issues as “inside jokes”.

GREnvironmental scientist and microplastics researcher @dankazh shares insights on the best water filters for microplastic removal. Reverse osmosis (RO) filters are the most effective, though also the most expensive. Ceramic filters offer good filtration at a lower cost. Brita filters are ineffective, and ZeroWater pitchers may potentially increase microplastic levels.
