JUI would have never known this about myself:
I packed away my easel and put the canvases away over a month ago to focus on expressionism sketching, using new materials and RENEWAL after 18 years of acrylic painting. Here is what I have learned:
1. It takes a long time to break habits. My hand of go-to marks and ways my brain moves me around the canvas were hard fast. Letting go and building new sketches is one of the most exciting things I have ever done as an artist.
2. I’m tapping in to a new voice. I am refreshing myself and becoming much more personal with my work.
3. My new materials are sharpening my motor skills and helping me express myself in new ways.
4. I am generating a load of new ideas. I am super excited for 2026 and where this practice will take me artistically.
5. Most importantly, I am reconnecting with the joy of process. I hope that these feelings translate to you in my work.
My entire heart and soul is being put into these expressionism sketches.. They are small glimpses into the new year that I am excited to share with you.
