🌊 Access to the Cave Could Be Blocked
Entry into the grotto is already only possible by small rowboats at low tide.
A higher water level could submerge the small entrance, making it inaccessible to tourists.
Even slight sea level rise or rough waves can cause the cave to close temporarily.
🗺️ Get to the Island of Capri
You must first arrive at Capri, which is an island in the Bay of Naples.
🚢 From Mainland Italy:
Naples (Napoli):
Ferry or hydrofoil from Molo Beverello or Mergellina port
Time: ~40–60 minutes
Sorrento:
Short ferry ride (20–30 minutes)
Amalfi/Positano:
Ferries operate during warmer months (~1–2 hours)
🛶 Reach the Blue Grotto from Capri
Once on Capri, you have two main options:
🚤 Option A: By Sea (Most Popular)
Take a boat tour from:
Marina Grande (main port of Capri)
Many tours circle the island and stop at the Blue Grotto
At the grotto, you'll transfer to a small rowboat (fits 3–4 people)
Entrance fee + rowing fee are paid directly at the grotto
Best on calm, sunny days; closed during rough seas
🥾 Option B: By Land (Then Down a Staircase)
Take a bus or taxi from Anacapri to “Grotta Azzurra” stop
Walk down a steep path/staircase (~10 minutes)
At the bottom, wait for a rowboat to take you inside
💡 Tips
Best time to visit: Late morning to early afternoon, when sunlight enters at the perfect angle
Bring cash for the rowboat fee and entry (~€18–25 total)
Cave may close without notice if sea conditions are bad.
