INArtificial intelligence is at the centre of this year’s World Government Summit in Dubai—and a new Accenture report unveiled at the summit signals a major shift in how governments are delivering public services.
Based on inputs from 4,000 public officials and 7,000 citizens across 14 countries, the report examines whether massive AI spending by governments is actually translating into better outcomes for people. The findings reveal a sharp divide: while many Western nations are still stuck in pilot phases, India and the Middle East are emerging as global leaders in AI-led governance.
Speaking to India Today, Xavier Anglada, Senior Managing Director and Global Lead for Growth Markets at Accenture, says India stands out for moving beyond experimentation to large-scale, citizen-centric AI deployment. From predictive healthcare to proactive documentation and welfare services, India is advancing towards what the report calls an “invisible government”—where public services anticipate citizen needs before they are even requested.
While challenges remain due to India’s scale and population, its talent pool, digital public infrastructure, and policy direction give it a competitive edge as global AI leadership evolves. With India set to host a major global AI summit soon, the report suggests New Delhi is positioning itself firmly at the forefront of the next phase of AI-driven governance.
