I’ve been homemaking for over 30 years. Through raising boys, fostering seasons, and now a daughter who came along after her brothers were grown. I have no interest in living in a constant loop of almost caught up like I used to. Here are a few of the little things I do that keep our home steady: 1. I don’t “close the kitchen” at night. There is almost always a pot soaking in my sink. I am not performing a full shutdown. I simply reset enough so the morning feels kind. 2. I freeze leftovers in large single servings. If I make enchiladas, I just double it. My normal freezer rhythm leans toward uncooked but prepped meals, but life has taught me flexibility. Sometimes I get one day’s notice that my husband is heading out to sea and needs five days of food packed. I like being able to open the freezer and say, “Done.” 3. I decide once and repeat. Groceries have a rhythm. Laundry has a day. Bathrooms have a loop. I am not renegotiating the same decisions every morning. 4. I don’t put it down. I put it away. It sounds small. It is not small. 5. I keep margin in the week. One day with fewer commitments so life has somewhere to land. None of this is dramatic. That’s the point. It’s boring. It’s steady. It works. Homes do not feel calm because someone is constantly sprinting. They feel calm because there is a quiet structure underneath them doing the heavy lifting. If you want the simple daily + weekly checklist I’ve used for years to keep our home running without eating my whole life, comment CHECKLIST and I’ll send it to you. Free ❤️

These are the things my mom taught me about making a house feel warm that I didn’t appreciate until I became a mom. It was about a candle always burning in the kitchen and spaces that invited people to sit and stay awhile. Now I catch myself doing the same things… choosing warmth, baking on a Sunday, setting out fresh towels, and styling shelves with family pictures and pieces that feel lived-in instead of perfect. Because the homes we remember most aren’t spotless. They’re welcoming. They’re slow. They’re full of life. Turns out the warmth I grew up with is the same warmth I’m trying to give my kids now. Here is a list of the things I’m doing to make our house feel like home: - Baking something on a slow Sunday—just because - A candle lit every evening, no occasion needed - Dinner together around the table - Cozy blankets folded within reach on the couch - Framed family photos in the hallway - Cookbooks displayed on the counter - A kitchen that always feels welcoming - A pot of soup simmering on the stove all afternoon - Cookies cooling on the counter after school - Playing music before dinner - Windows cracked open on spring evenings - Staying in pajamas long after breakfast on a weekend - Fresh flowers clipped from the yard - Homework spread across the kitchen island - Lamps for coziness instead of overhead lights - Folding laundry at the kitchen table Follow along @wildwoodhomeliving for cozy home ideas, simple decorating, and realistic spaces made for family life. #cozyhome #homemaking #momlife warm home, neutral decor, organic home, family home, slow home, home decor inspo, simple living, homebody

1. Complaining about the tasks of homemaking because what we complain about, we begin to resent. These are the very works God entrusted to our hands for this season. 2. Talking about our children as if they are a burden because children are not interruptions to our lives, they are the work of our lives. The way we speak about them shapes our hearts toward them. 3. Gossip disguised as “processing” because tearing someone down, even subtly, never produces righteousness or peace. 4. Constant focus on what feels hard without gratitude because it trains our eyes to see lack instead of the Lord’s provision. 5. Conversations that stir discontent with our marriages or callings because comparison quietly undermines contentment and faithfulness. 6. Speaking in ways that normalize bitterness because bitterness may feel relatable, but it quietly poisons the heart. 7. Conversations that center on self instead of sanctification because growth requires humility, not constant validation. 8. Rehearsing fear instead of bringing it to prayer because fear grows when it’s repeated instead of surrendered. 9. Talking about obedience as legalism because obedience is not bondage, it’s love rightly ordered toward God. I don’t need perfect friendships. I want fruit bearing ones. Conversations that make us steadier, softer, and more faithful right where the Lord has placed us.

For a long time, I thought being a “good homemaker” meant doing more. Cleaning more. Organizing more. Optimizing more. But the habit that changed my days the most? Getting dressed. Not for errands. Not for anyone coming over. Not because I’m trying to impress anyone. I get dressed because my days at home matter. When I stay in pajamas, my brain stays in “background mode.” When I get dressed, I create my day on purpose. It’s a small act of dignity. A quiet signal to myself that this work, this life, this ordinary Monday — counts. Getting dressed makes me feel better, it makes me more productive, and present. And presence is what changes a home. My home deserves the dressed version of me, and so do I. If your days have been feeling flat or heavy, try it for a week. Your outfits don’t have to be fancy. Just intentional. Your home deserves the dressed version of you, and so do you. 🫶🏼 Save this for tomorrow morning. Comment “Links” and I’ll send you my outfit details. #homemaker #homemaking #getdressed #mom

For me, it was realizing that homemaking isn’t about doing more… it’s about doing what supports your family and your nervous system. Simple rhythms. Fewer decisions. A home that works with you, not against you. I started focusing on small, repeatable habits - resetting the kitchen each night, cooking from what we already have, tying certain tasks to the same day each week. Nothing fancy, just faithful. And somehow, everything started to feel lighter. Now I want to hear from you. What’s one thing you do that makes homemaking feel more peaceful, more doable, or more like home? Drop it in the comments - let’s learn from each other 🤍 . . . #homemakinglife #simplehomemaking #intentionalhome #homemakercommunity #rhythmsathome

Screenshotable (written) recipes for the granola and the yogurt are at the end of the video :) Thick & creamy homemade greek yogurt <3 It’s surprisingly simple to make, just a little bit of wait time but soooo worth the wait. For a realistic timeline example since I know it seems like a lot with the waiting: prepare the yogurt before going to bed. In the morning, pour it into a cheese cloth lined colander set over a big bowl and put that in the fridge. After you get home from work your yogurt will be ready. It may be extra thick at this point, so you can mix back in some of the whey until it’s your desired thickness. Then store in the fridge and enjoy! This recipe uses an instant pot, but you totally don’t have to have one to make yogurt. All you need to do to make yogurt is heat the milk to 180F, then drop it down to 110F before adding your yogurt starter. From there you just need to keep it warm so the starter can do its work while it incubates. This can totally be done in a crockpot/slow cooker, or a Dutch oven or regular pot. I’ll be sharing the recipe using an instant pot because that’s what I use, but you can use these same measurements using a different method, just google a recipe using whichever type of pot you’d like to use (for ex: slow cooker Greek yogurt recipe) and then follow those instructions using my measurements if you’d like!:) #madefromscratch #greekyogurt #healthyrecipe #homemaking #highprotein
