The questions that feel too uncomfortable to ask in interviews are exactly the ones that reveal whether you're accepting a great opportunity or a six-figure nightmare. These questions have personally made me walk away from lucrative offers because the answers exposed toxic cultures I would have spent years escaping 💼 Uncomfortable questions you should ask before accepting any job offer: 1. Why did the last person leave this role, and the person before them? If they're evasive or can't answer, that's your answer. High turnover in a specific role is a massive red flag about the position, the team, or the manager. 2. Can you give me specific examples of work-life balance here? Don't accept vague promises about "culture." Ask for concrete examples. If they can't name any, the balance doesn't exist. 3. What's the team's biggest challenge right now? If leadership can't clearly articulate current problems, they're either out of touch or hiding something. Either way, you're walking into dysfunction. 4. How are decisions actually made here, and who has real authority? Understand where power actually lives versus org chart hierarchy. Misalignment between stated and actual authority creates constant friction. 5. What happened during your last layoff, and how did you decide who stayed? This reveals whether they protected top performers or made political decisions. Their answer tells you everything about how they'll treat you when things get tough. Better to walk away from the wrong offer than accept it and spend two years recovering 🎯 Comment ELITE for my newsletter on interview questions that reveal what companies won't volunteer. #jobinterview #interviewquestions #careeradvice #joboffer #interviewtips #jobsearch #careerstrategy #interviewprep #careerafter50 #jobofferquestions #interviewadvice #redflags #jobsearchtips #careercoach #hiringprocess #interviewskills #jobacceptance #careerprotection #smartinterviewing #duediligence

Here are 3 things you must lie about at your job interviews. 1. No matter how much you hate your current boss, don’t badmouth about your current employer. Focus on the positive in the new role. 2. Even if you are only interviewing with one company, tell them you are speaking to other companies as well, showing you have options and that you are a top candidate. 3. Don’t mention any weakness directly related to the job description. Instead, mention a real weakness that’s not as relevant to this role, and elaborate what you did to improve. In fact, these are not lies. They are just better ways and angles to position yourself to help you pass the job interview. Does the traditional career advice still hold in 2026? I sat down with @linkedin’s CEO to find out. Turns out - the old ways miiiight not be reliable as they once were. But don’t fret, because @ryanroslanskylinkedin just wrote THE book about career advice that actually works in 2026. And as of today, it’s officially available to purchase!! I know Ryan, Aneesh, and so many people on the LinkedIn team put their heart and soul into writing this book, making sure it’s realistic, tactical, and full of the hope we need to find our way through this work evolution. It’s worth the read! If you want to grab your copy, comment OPEN and I'll send it to ya #careeradvice #jobsearch #jobsearchtips #linkedintips #opentoworkbook

Recruiters asking “Are you interviewing at other companies?” is not about honesty. It’s about positioning. Saying “No, just you” can make it sound like no one else wants you. But saying “I’m in final rounds everywhere” can make them think you’re already gone. Both work against you. What they’re actually trying to figure out is: Are you in demand? Are you genuinely interested? Are you worth prioritising? So here’s what to say instead. If you’re early or mid-process: “I’m exploring a few opportunities that align with my background, and I’m being intentional about where I invest my time. This role really stood out to me.” If you’re further along or have offers: “I am further along in a couple of other processes, but based on what I’ve learned so far, this role is a front-runner for me. I’m happy to keep you updated as things progress.” This keeps you: - Honest - In demand - Credible - High on the recruiter’s priority list Save this before your next interview. Most people mess this question up - you don’t have to✨ #jobsearchtips #interviewtips #careersadvice #techsalestips #interviewquestionsandanswers

Recruiter: “Are you interviewing at other companies?” This question isn’t about honesty. It’s about leverage. 🚫 Saying “No, just here” can signal low demand. 🚫 Saying “I’m in final rounds” or “I have multiple offers” can signal you’re already gone or unlikely. Both extremes quietly hurt your positioning. What recruiters are actually listening for: • Market demand • Genuine interest • Whether you’re worth prioritizing Say this instead 👇 If you’re early or mid-process: “I’m exploring a few opportunities that align with my background, and I’m being selective about where I focus. This role really stood out to me.” If you’re further along or have offers: “I’m in later-stage conversations elsewhere, but this role stood out enough that I wanted to explore it. Based on what I’ve seen so far, it’s a strong contender for me. I’m happy to keep you posted as things progress.” This keeps you: ✅ Honest ✅ In demand ✅ Credible ✅ In a position of leverage Save this before your next interview. Interviewer: “Do you have any questions for us?” And you say: “No, I’m good.” 🚫 That’s a missed opportunity. Because this part of the interview is still being evaluated. The right questions can show: • how you think • how prepared you are • how serious you are about the role So instead, come in ready with questions like these 👇 💡 20 Smart Questions to Ask in an Interview About the role 1. What does success look like in the first 90 days? 2. What are the biggest priorities for this role right now? 3. What challenges might I face early on? 4. How is performance measured in this position? About the team 5. How would you describe the team culture? 6. How does the team typically collaborate? 7. Who would I be working most closely with? 8. What makes someone successful on this team? About the manager 9. How would you describe your management style? 10. How do you support team growth and development? 11. How often do you provide feedback? About growth & development 12. What opportunities are there for growth? 13. How do employees typically progress in this role? 14. Are there learning or development resources available? About the company 15. What are the company’s goals for the next year? 16. What challenges is the company currently facing? 17. How does this role contribute to overall company goals? About the process 18. What are the next steps in the hiring process? 19. Is there anything about my background that gives you hesitation? 20. When can I expect to hear back? ⸻ You don’t need to ask all 20. But asking 2–3 thoughtful questions can completely change how you’re perceived. Because you’re not just answering questions… You’re showing how you think. ⸻ 📌 Save this before your next interview. 📤 Share this with someone job hunting right now. #interviewtips #careeradvice #jobsearchtips #corporatelife #interviewprep

Use this 👇 Getting that “We’ve decided to move forward with other candidates” message HURTS… 😞 But here’s the truth that email isn’t the end of the road. In fact, it’s a hidden opportunity. Because hiring plans change constantly: ➡️ Final candidates decline offers during negotiations ➡️ New hires leave within 90 days ➡️ Budgets reopen for additional roles ➡️ Other teams need similar skills And when those moments happen (they do ALL the time)… Who do hiring managers remember? The candidates who responded with grace and professionalism. Here’s your framework for the perfect reply 👇 ✨ 1. Show Appreciation “Thank you for letting me know. I’m grateful for the chance to interview and learn more about your team.” 🤝 2. Acknowledge Disappointment “While I’m disappointed as I was excited about contributing to [Company/Team], I understand you’ve found someone who fits your current needs.” 💡 3. Highlight What Resonated “I especially enjoyed our conversation about [specific project/topic]. Hearing your perspective on [specific challenge] was incredibly insightful.” 🚪 4. Keep the Door Open “I’d love to stay in touch and be considered for future opportunities. I’ll continue following [Company]’s work and hope our paths cross again.” That response might just make you more memorable than the interview itself. Where others vanish, you’ll stand out as someone who handles rejection with class and that’s what gets remembered. Job interviews aren’t confessionals… they’re marketing. Framing your experience in the strongest, most confident way isn’t being dishonest — it’s understanding how to position your skills, transferable experience, and career value. Employers are evaluating potential, impact, and fit… not asking for your life story.
