SAI know dealing with a narcissistic other parent can feel overwhelming, exhausting and sometimes impossible.
They manipulate, twist situations and make parenting harder than it ever should be.
So if your frustration gets the better of you and you end up saying negative things about your ex like “I hate him” or “I can’t stand her” your child hears more than just anger. They hear that you hate a part of them.
As much as you want to vent, those words can cut deep into their sense of identity and self-worth, leaving lasting scars.
I know it’s tough. You’re human and your emotions are real as well as valid. But as hard as it gets, be mindful of your words. Protect your child’s heart. They shouldn’t have to carry the burden of your frustration, even if the other parent is making life difficult.
In the end, your child’s emotional wellbeing is what matters most and that’s where we can rise above, even in the face of narcissism.
