Gentle movement before bed is incredibly effective at helping you sleep better and sleep longer. Everything from your muscles to your nervous system will benefit and it helps your whole system shift into rest mode. Many of us carry the tension of the day into the night, even without meaning to - tight shoulders, shallow breath, buzzing thoughts. All of it weighing on you. Often without your awareness. When you move slowly and with more awareness, you tell your body that it’s safe to relax. That is exactly what this sequence is designed for. 💡Movement also improves circulation and joint comfort, which means you’re less likely to toss and turn during the night. So by releasing stiffness and soothing the body, you reduce those little wake-ups caused by discomfort. Finally - another powerful effect is on your breath and heart rate. Calming movements regulate your breathing and slow down your heart rate, which helps your brain move from an alert state into a restful one. This not only makes it easier to fall asleep but also helps you stay asleep longer. A gentle bedtime routine signals to your body that the day is done. When you repeat the same movements nightly, they become a cue - like brushing your teeth - that trains your body and mind to expect rest. Moving before bed quiets the nervous system, releases tension, eases discomfort, and sets the stage for longer, deeper sleep. Why wouldn’t you? These are designed to be done slowly. As a ritual and not with a “bang it out” energy. Feel. Breathe. Release. All of them release tension from your head to your feet. The head rolling move is especially medicinal.
