When you lift heavy weights, you trigger mechanical tension and metabolic stress, signaling the body to repair the damage. The brain activates satellite cells, which donate their nuclei to the damaged fibers, increasing their volume and protein content. This process is fueled by the mTOR pathway, a primary regulator of cell growth that requires a steady supply of essential amino acids and a caloric surplus to function.  True growth, however, happens during the recovery phase, not in the gym. During sleep, your endocrine system releases growth hormone and testosterone to facilitate the synthesis of new contractile proteins. If you don’t allow 48–72 hours of rest between training the same muscle group, you risk chronic inflammation and muscle wasting instead of growth. A) Immediately assume it’s just not for me. or B) Today is day one of learning. I’ve committed to ALWAYS choosing option B. I’ve spent enough of my life assuming things aren’t meant for me. Or that I’m not good enough. Or I’ll just never get there no matter how hard I try. But of course I never will if I never even start trying. Everyone once had a day one.
