THPillars of Eternity has just received a turn-based mode in its latest patch, over ten years after release.
In a surprise patch, Obsidian have revealed they’ve added a long-requested turn-based mode to Pillars of Eternity, which originally released back in 2015.
A new public beta, opening on November 5, will give players the chance to check out the mode on Steam and PC via Xbox.
In a blog post, Obsidian said of the reveal, “Fans who enjoyed experimenting with Turn-Based Mode in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire will find familiar ground here, but with key improvements shaped by your feedback.”
In Pillars of Eternity’s Turn-Based Mode, turns will be influenced by a character’s overall speed. Actions like swapping weapons, drinking potions, or enabling modals will all be free actions, limited to one per turn. Combat lethality has also been increased for both enemies and players.
Turn-Based Mode will be available for selection alongside difficulty when starting a new game, but players will also be able to swap between Turn-Based and Real-Time with Pause via the game options.
Obsidian have said that, due to it being a public beta, players should “expect bugs and ongoing adjustments.” No date has been given for the mode’s full release, though the studio has said it will “run for some time as we continue to roll out updates and prepare for a full release.”
