Out of surgery and feeling… OK!!!! In case you were wondering, it was only ventral, not going down into my 🍒🤣
They did a transversus abdominis plane block (a type of nerve block that numbs a large area) so I’m grateful to be pretty numb at my incision sites 🙏 Not looking forward to that wearing off 🫣 The most pain that I’m feeling is actually the pressure from the gas that was used to inflate my abdominal cavity and give the surgeon room to work!!!
Thank you to the entire team from front desk, to pre-op, to OR, to post-op 🙏🙏 It was slightly weird when I had a nurse who also works with me in the ER watch me pee 🤣😳 I feel so bad, but I was so out of it, I didn’t even recognize her at first 😬 Sorry, friend!!! I love working with you and absolutely remember you now that anesthesia wizards are no longer casting spells on my brain 🧙♂️ (anesthesia truly is witchcraft, right!??)

AGA new multicenter randomized trial evaluated gabapentin for pain management after major cardiac, thoracic, and abdominal surgery. Despite its routine inclusion in multimodal analgesia protocols, the results were clear: -No meaningful reduction in pain, opioid use, or length of stay.
-Higher rates of pain at 4 weeks and 4 months in the gabapentin group.
-Adverse events (sedation, respiratory depression, vomiting) occurred more often in those receiving gabapentin, though all resolved.
