ASThe High-Voltage Rescue🦅
The hum of the electrical transformer was usually a background noise Aston ignored, until he saw the utility truck. He watched from his apartment balcony as workers, citing safety hazards, cleared a massive tangle of sticks from the power lines.
High above, a mother eagle circled frantically, her piercing cries echoing through the concrete canyon. She had been building her home in the most dangerous spot imaginable.
A New Foundation
Aston knew the eagle wouldn't leave the area—she was determined to nest. Fearing she would just start again on the same dangerous transformer, he decided to offer a better alternative. He quickly cleared his own balcony and dragged out a large, sturdy wooden crate he had used for storage.
Preparation: He lined the crate with dried grass, soft moss, and sturdy branches he gathered from the park across the street.
The Lure: He placed the "starter nest" on the highest corner of his railing, well away from the glass door.
The Retreat: He stepped inside and pulled the curtains, leaving just a small gap to watch.
Moving Day
For hours, the mother eagle perched on a nearby lamp post, eyeing the electrical pole and then the balcony. Finally, driven by instinct and the need for a stable home, she dived.
With a powerful sweep of her wings, she landed on Aston's railing. She inspected the crate, nudging the moss with her beak. Finding it safer and softer than the cold metal of the power grid, she began to bring back the salvaged sticks from the ground.
By sunset, the eagle was settled into her new, "permitted" penthouse. Aston watched her silhouette against the orange sky, realizing his balcony was no longer just a place for coffee—it was a sanctuary.
