SAVE THIS FOR LATER 🔥 Cold emailing or calling doctors can feel impossible 😭—but there’s a method that works. I’ve personally gotten 260+ hours of shadowing in just 7 months using this exact approach. Here’s how to get a YES 👇🏽 1️⃣ Start with your warmest connections Family doctor, your parent’s physician, or anyone you already know. They’re far more likely to say yes. 2️⃣ Cold email or call strategically Most premeds send generic messages—so no one responds. The trick: personalize, be concise, and show genuine interest. 💡 Sample email script: Subject: Shadowing Opportunity Hi Dr. [Last Name], My name is [Your Name], a [Year] student at [School]. I’m very interested in [Specialty] and admire your work on [specific paper/project]. I would love the opportunity to shadow you for a few hours to learn more about the field and observe patient care. I’m happy to work around your schedule. Thank you for your time and consideration! Best, [Your Name] 3️⃣ Follow up politely If you don’t hear back in 7–10 days, send a short follow-up. Persistence = results. ⚡ Tip: Keep a tracking spreadsheet with who you emailed, date, response, and follow-up. It keeps you organized and professional. 📩 Want my full Shadowing Guidebook with ready-to-fill templates for emails, calls, and follow-ups? Comment “SHADOW” below—I’ve got you.” Follow @bella_in_med for more premed tips 📈 #premedstudent #shadowing #firstgenerationcollegestudent #premedtips #premedadvice

You’ve been told not to say this in your personal statement… but that’s not entirely true. Most premeds hear: “Don’t say you like science and want to help people.” And they take that as: 👉 “I should avoid that idea completely.” But that’s not the point. Because at your core, that is why you’re pursuing medicine. You’re drawn to science. You want to help people. That part is expected. The problem is how you communicate it. If you tell the admissions committee: “I like science and want to help people”— you sound like every other applicant. And that’s what makes your personal statement forgettable. What actually makes you stand out is when you show it through your experiences: The patient interactions that stayed with you The moments that challenged how you think The experiences that confirmed this is the path for you That’s how you prove it— without ever explicitly saying it. Because the best personal statements don’t just tell the reader who you are— They make them see it through your story. If you want help turning your experiences into a personal statement that actually stands out— DM me “personal statement” and I’ll work with you to build it. #Premed #MedicalSchoolApplication #PersonalStatement #MedSchoolAdmissions #PremedTips

These 7 tips will blow your mind 🤯⬇️ Being a premed is hard. Being first-gen makes it even harder. 🩺 There are so many obstacles people don’t talk about. Financial stress. Limited access to opportunities. And honestly, just not knowing how this whole process works. I know how overwhelming it can feel. So here are 7 things you can do to set yourself apart, especially if you’re first-gen 👇🏽 1️⃣ Start Psych/Soc for the MCAT early You do not need classes for this. Start freshman year. Do practice questions. Learn the concepts. Take this section off your plate before MCAT season even begins. 2️⃣ Get a clinical certification as early as possible EMT. CNA. MA. Decide what you want to do and get certified early so you can build hours over time. 3️⃣ Join a research lab and stay Do not bounce around. The longer you’re in a lab, the more you gain presentations, publications, strong letters, and real ownership. 4️⃣ Apply to paid research programs This is a cheat code for first-gen premeds. You get paid, you network, and you work at top institutions many of which also have top-tier medical schools. 5️⃣ Build real relationships with professors If you like how a professor teaches or connects with students take more of their classes. That’s how you earn strong letters of recommendation. 6️⃣ Start a passion project It does not need to be complicated. Ask yourself two questions: What do I care about? How can I involve the community? That’s it. 7️⃣ Find ONE trusted mentor This is fundamental. Someone you can ask the questions you’re afraid to ask. You do not need to figure this out alone. I know this is easier said than done. That’s why I share the how, the where, and the realistic steps here. If you’re struggling or don’t know where to start follow me and reach out 🤍 I’ve got you. Save this and come back to it later. #firstgenerationcollegestudent #premedstudent #premedadvice #premedtips #collegestudent
