ARI first heard artist and educator Reginald Laurent speak at @theartofed Conference, and I immediately connected with his philosophy:
That no piece is out of place… and the whole becomes stronger when every part belongs.
I recently had the chance to connect with Reginald over Zoom, and truly his presence is something special. He brings so much enthusiasm, wisdom, and creative energy into every conversation about art and teaching.
Reginald works with schools as a visiting artist and offers powerful 45-minute sessions that leave students feeling inspired and capable.
This collaboration was rooted in his piece The Art of Diversity and built through a structured process with room for choice and trust, bold color, simple shapes, and the freedom to keep going, thanks to the vibrant paper from @astrobrights
And of course… the questions came quickly:
“Is this okay?”
“Does this look right?”
My answer was always simple: "Keep going"
Sometimes I’d turn it back to them and ask
"What do you think?"
At first, we thought the piece felt a little too square… so we kept building outward, letting it grow into what it needed to become.
