SVThis is my new pet! Or my new house plant! I'm not sure what you'd call it! My husband and I just traveled to Jamaica and we got to swim in the bioluminescent algae! These algae glow when moved as a defense mechanism. It was one of the most unique experiences of my entire life!
So of course, my one souvenir needed to be some bioluminescence of my own!
After a BUNCH of research, I found a company that ethically grows and sells this bioluminescent algae! The algae are technically called dinoflagellates, Dinos for short! (I'll link them in my bio!)
I keep my algae in the same place as my house plants that can't handle direct sun! (I'll do another reel showing where I keep them and how I feed them!)
Want to know another cool thing? They multiply! So you can buy additional containers and give them as gifts!! What a special, unique gift!

And to all those who don’t know what algae is- I said adopt because it’s a living thing in my home but it is NOT an animal, it’s a plant, so please do not worry. It’s like how everyone is “adopting” mossballs right now 😅 I love the concern on my page as a conservationist, but the anger is misplaced 😂 all of the algae from this company has been propagated or grown from one tiny piece so it isn’t being taken from the ocean.

KAMy brother got me these bioluminescent dinoflagellates from @pyrofarms for Christmas. These guys are neither plant nor animal and their big claim to fame is producing ethereal, blue, glowing light when agitated. One of my favorite memories of all time is scuba diving with my other brother in Mexico - it was nighttime, we were kneeling on the bottom of the ocean floor, and when we moved our hands through the water, everything started to glow 🌟 Bioluminescent organisms just like these actually play a lil part in my next book - THE UMBRELLA MAKER’S SON (which comes out in June and you can preorder it now through the link in my bio!!!) 🥰💡🌊

I had the opportunity to take another tour with @pyrofarms and it was so much fun. I’ve toured with them before but we were able to interact and film a bunch of stations with bio.
